Taiwo Awoniyi but suffered a broken nose and had to be stretchered off in Nottingham Forest’s FA Cup fourth round win against lower division side Exeter in the fourth round on Tuesday night.
Forest went through to the fifth round 4-2 on penalty shootout after 90 minutes and extra-time ended 2-2.
Awoniyi scored on 37 minutes to put Forest 2-1 ahead after Exeter had taken the lead through Josh Magennis in the fifth minute.
Ramon Sosa made it 1-1 10 minutes after the home team had gone ahead.
Despite having a player sent off with three minutes left in the game Exeter still managed to force the game to extra-time and penalties.
But there was concern in the contest, however, following a long stoppage at the end of full-time after a clash between Exeter keeper Joe Whitworth and Awoniyi, which saw the striker carried from the field on a stretcher.
After the game Forest released a statement on X that head coach Nuno Espirito Santo confirmed that Awoniyi suffered a broken nose.
“Nuno has confirmed that Taiwo Awoniyi sustained a broken nose following an aerial collision in tonight’s cup tie.
“Wishing you a speedy recovery, T! .”
Tuesday’s goal against Exeter was Awoniyi’s second across every competition this season.
