Team Nigeria’s sprinter, Favour Ofili, has described her performance in the Paris 2024 Olympic Women’s 200m final as a herculean task, admitting she gave her best but expressing disappointment over her sixth position feat, Completesports.com reports.
The sprinter, who ran in lane 9, ended up in 6th place with a time of 22.24 seconds, which was not good enough for a podium finish.

The final was won by the USA’s Gabby Thomas, who took the gold medal with a time of 21.83 seconds. She was followed by Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia, who finished in 22.08 seconds. USA’s Brittany Brown emerged third best with a time of 22.20 seconds.
Prior to her campaign in the 200m, Ofili was upset over her exclusion from the 100m race, blaming the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) for an oversight.
In a post on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) after her loss, Ofili surrendered her fate to divinity, noting she managed to gain mental stamina despite the pain from missing the 100m competition.
“God’s will, not mine. It’s been a hard journey. I tried to be mentally prepared despite the shocking news I received a few days ago. I gave it my all from Lane 9,” Ofili admitted.
“If it were easy, everyone would be doing it. Thank you, Coach Shaver. Having you around made everything a lot easier for me. 200m finalist, finished 6th overall. Next (on God).”

Lane 9 against such a strong field was bound to be difficult that was why I never expected a podium finish. Gabby and Brown where the once who got better lane placement due to their semifinal performances. Alfred is indeed a champion for coming 2nd despite running from lane 8. Ofili at age 21 you’re going to make it in future if you keep a disciplined lifestyle and try to get more tips from Tobi Amusan how she got to the top. It is not easy for Africans getting into medal zone because there’s a lot of hurdles to beat aside our poor administrations. Once again congratulations on your final placement at age 21 you will only move higher!!!
Yea, I knew it would be an uphill task for Favour Ofili to get a podium finish from that almost impossible lane 9. Had she got a better lane (lanes 4-7), She would have got a medal. Her time of 20.05 in the semi final would have been good enough for a Silver or Bronze medal, instead of the 20.24 she ran in the final. Better luck next time!
