Arsenal are set to go head-to-head with north London rivals Tottenham to sign Ajax ace Donny van de Beek. Gunners boss Unai Emery is expected to overhaul his squad this summer following their failure to qualify for the Champions League, with Shkodran Mustafi, Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan among the names linked with the exit door.

In terms of incomings, it appears Dutch international van de Beek is high on Emery’s wishlist, with the 22-year-old having played a major role in Ajax’s run through to the semi-finals of this season’s Champions League. Spurs are also said to be interested in van de Beek and were rumoured to be lining up a £45million bid, although given the youngster’s performances this season, it may take a more considerable offer to convince Ajax to sell.
Van de Beek himself is not believed to be in any rush to leave the Eredivisie champions, with his father having previously been quoted as saying it would take ‘a very good club for him to want to trade Ajax for’. That means Arsenal will have to come up with a big offer if they are to sign van de Beek and it remains to be seen whether they are in a financial position to push through that kind of deal.
