Manchester United are poised to activate their option to extend right-back Timothy Fosu-Mensah’s deal by a further year. The academy prospect has spent a disappointing season on loan at relegation strugglers Fulham, which certainly hasn’t helped his progress.

Fosu-Mensah has made just 11 appearances and only been included in 13 Premier League matchday squads, which has not pleased his parent club. However, the Red Devils retain the hope the powerful Netherlands starlet can still make the grade with them and will include him in their pre-season preparations.
It’s understood Fosu-Mensah is out of contract next year but United included a 12-month renewal clause on their side and don’t want to give up on the player just yet. It’s likely United will send him out on loan again next season but will first seek firm assurances over playing time, although Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could still have a big say if he becomes the permanent Old Trafford boss.
Fosu-Mensah, who made the first-team breakthrough at United under former manager Louis van Gaal, making a total of 14 senior appearances, was loaned to Crystal Palace last term. The Dutchman was a big advocate of his fellow countryman and there are still people at the Theatre of Dreams who believe he can come good, so want to protect their asset.
