Former Flying Eagles defender, Kennedy Chinwo has revealed that having a talent is not enough to play in the Super Eagles without having a strong godfather.
He made this startling confession in an interview on Brila FM, where he also disclosed his love for coaching.
“It is the dream of every player to play for the Super Eagles. However, playing in the senior national team won’t just come easy. You need a godfather to play in the Eagles. But if you don’t have, no matter your talent, you won’t be able to play.
“A few of the players who I feel should have been in the Super Eagles despite their talent were not given a chance to play in the team.”
Recall that Chinwo was part of Samson Siasia-led Flying Eagles team that narrowly lost the final of the FIFA U-20 World Cup to Lionel Messi’s led Argentina in 2005 in Netherlands..

For U20, U23, CHAN Eagles and Nigerian clubsides yes, I may agree. But Super Eagles? I doubt it. It’s glaring to the world now why of recent these aforementioned ‘Nigerian’ teams look nothing like traditional Nigerian teams as they play disjointed, talentless football.
People like Bosso and Salisu cut deals to take a percentage of the $$$$$ from the hoped transfer fee. Although more often than not, these ‘cash & play’ and ‘Abuja politicians list’ players end up in Moldovan and Vietnamese leagues. You can’t chest talent or nature.
We usually ask certain players to retire after years of players of being SE players. We should also start asking certain coaches like Bosso to retire after years of not allowing other coaches to coach underage teams. He’s even made himself their association president so he can continue to influence NFF and dictate things on the scene.
That means he did same ..this is a case to be investigated .he is an insider.list of names of officers ,players, and other cronies involved identified.. performances of each players , money paid , talented players affected negatively at each deal and position in the field .the coaches involved listed .
This will put a stop to this indiscipline. Just like dey identify the man urinating on the field.
The persons involved should be identified.even is not for action or punishment .
There are lots of football talents in Nigeria but these godfatherism and corruption have turned Nigeria football teams to toothless lion.
Correct. God Fathers are killing Nigerian football.
Even this U-20 team… that fulani boy wearing number 10 is not a player. He isnt good enough to wear that number and jersey.
@ jimmy why will you say number 10 is not a player, he took that superb corner kick that led to a wonderfull goal via agbalakas header, jimmy your tribalism is becoming alarming, you just have unnecesary artitude against the notherners, with ur level of exposure you shouldnt look down on tribes. That number 10 made the midfield better than the previous game against senegal, some of u guys in the forum are just addicted to critcism,
Laden bosso is a renoun youth coach in nigeria, he has produced alot talent for eagles and he doesnt take nonsense, he has won this turnament before and has reached the quaterfinal stage of the under 20 wcup, do you think he will just throw out his team number 10 jersey like that, please we shouldnt be taking peoples hard earn profession and personality for junks. This under 20 team is a good team and the evidences are there they won alot preparation games and scored about 99 goals in less than 30 games, alot screening was done, somepeople here even doubting their age bcos they lost a match i dont know if they expect a 20 years old adult should look like akin and pawpaw before they can be accepted. Even when they know that there is a bone test which have screened all players and alot of players where sent home for failing age test, you still come here to mock a nation for age shit! Some people are just national disaster. The senegalese team they lost to is a verry good team though we will beat them in the final, the team is good about 6 of them won the recent chan turnament, senegal in general is in form in terms of football now! losing a goal down to a rival is not the end of the world, the supereagles team have lost many times to senegal the last painful one was 2002 when we had okocha oruma holiseh etc great players senegal took the day, we also beat them twice in 2006, we also snatch this turnament under 20 afcon from them in 2015 right there in senegal, we are rivals, do not expect to always beat these teams in africa bcos they are capable of beating you and any team in the world too( egypt, algeria, morocco, tunisia, cameroun, ivorycoast, ghana, senegal,) southafrica, mali, burkinafaso, congo and zambia can also shock you in this game so you have to respect your heart so you will not be breaking it everyday bcos of football make u nor go die.
I think our team is good they dont have a good striker expecially a center forward. And they also have to reduce the tempo of which they try to play, the tempo is faster than their level of tecknic cosing them to make lot mistakes and lose the ball easily expecially upfront, this issue also applies to the current supr eagles team, they are faster than their shadow, they want to play like mancity but their level of teknic is below their intention, we have to be patient with the ball move it carmly around till there is a loophole to utilise, not attempting to rush down opponents by trying difficult passes that doesnt make sense, we should always priotise possesion and take easy and sure options around rather than bla bla blu blu… thats my observations so far, my favorites are number 12,14,3,6,11,15,4, i also like the goal keeper he seems better than uzoho and maduka
There is no bone test for U20…..Only u17
Players who fell down the line or got dropped for better talents especially those who can’t accept defeat are the ones that goes public.
I am not exonerating these coaches from guilt or wrongdoings, though because of how the system is there’s likelihood for corruption but i don’t think all the coaches are involved in this malpractice because coaches wants to excel and you can’t be a success picking an understrength team.
For example, the 2013 & 15 golden eaglet class are corrupt free. There are genuine talents in that squad who are pulling weight today in global football.I want to believe Samson Siasia despite allegations labelled against him is known to be an honest coach when employed to our youth teams.I could make a case for a few other youth coaches of which Bosso belongs,on issues surrounding this unlawful conducts. His boys where the best he found while on scouting mission, the results in build up to both the wafu b tournament in Niger and the world cup playoffs in Egypt respectively should absolve him from guilt of any form of malpractice or unprofessional practices.
Abeg he should let us hear word.someone who is not talented enough will start shouting godfather.even at the u 20 was he a starter?or is it the godfather that made him not play 4 top clubs.
This guy was a poor right back when he played for the Nigerian age group team(s).
He should tell Nigerians who made the team based on a God Father.
Nigerians will always come up with stupid excuses to hide their inadequacies – if its not this, its their relatives or neighbors doing juju on them, or someone trying to bring them down.
They wouldn’t tell you that perhaps, they are the ones who are not good enough. Always finding someone else to blame but themselves.
Thank you Greenturf, football is business and there is alot of interest for the game, there is no country in the world that doesnt have Godfathers un sports. expecially when the game is independent from the government there for everything can play, its almost in all entertainment industry including nollywood and hollywood. that is why football agents and scouts are involved in the game, for you to be a famouse and highly paid football agent you must know Godfathers of clubs and coaches that is verymuch part of the game,
However neighter the Godfathers or the agents nor you or i would want to invest on a poor player even if na your picken every football lovers want to invest in great talents, the owner of napoli is a big don in italy, he never play with osimen despite the racism in italy the man and the coach will never joke with osihmen bcos its an asset to them, even if the fans feels otherwise, if you are good and you keep working hard the so called Godfathers of football will discover you, its not about the money you are given to the coach, you nor get money naah, its just that nigerians are use to give me money, find me something etc, begging with Blackmailing tactics, its everywhere in the country, even your pastor will ask you money, i can guarantee you that even if you are Maradona you will still settle nigeria coaches, expecially in youth level, i can assure you that everyplayers in that team must pay their dues, wether you are good oh, or even poor, you will pay, the coach will borow you the money to settle him, you will pay with your match bonus, but it doesnt justify that players selected are bad, if you are bad player if you like settle you will not go anywhere.
