Maya Yoshida has been ruled out of Southampton’s final game of the season against Huddersfield Town on Sunday. The Japanese centre-back has missed the Saints’ last two matches due to a virus and has been given more time to recover by boss Ralph Hasenhuttl.

Fellow defender Jannik Vestergaard is expected to miss out again with a groin problem, but Angus Gunn will return in goal. Having fielded a more experimental side against West Ham last time out, Hasenhuttl is expected to restore several established names – such as Nathan Redmond and James Ward-Prowse – to his strongest line-up for the last match of the campaign.
“We have still one game to go at the weekend and we will have a few changes back in maybe the shape we played before and the players that played before,” Hasenhuttl said. “This game gives us a serious chance to say goodbye in a winning way and that’s what I want to do with my team.”
