Former Super Eagles defender Joseph Yobo says the team didn’t play with much hunger in their 2-0 loss to Madagascar in Sunday’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Group B encounter at the Alexandria Stadium, Completesports.com reports.
The Barea put up a fine performance to stun the three-time African champions who were poor all through.
Lalaina Nomenjanahary and Carolus Andriamatsinoro got the goals for Barea who recorded their first win in five meetings against the Super Eagles.
“On paper, the Super Eagles were favourites to win the game, but they didn’t show that on the pitch,” Yobo stated during his analysis on SuperSport.
“Madagascar showed hunger and desire which contributed immensely to their victory in the game. They really fought hard in the game and deserved their win.
“The key moment of the game was the blunder which led to Madagascar ‘ s first goal of the game. ”
Madagascar finished top of the group with seven points from three games, while the Super Eagles ended in second position with six points.
Guinea who defeated Burundi 2-0 in another Group B encounter on Sunday finished in third position with four points.
