Former Nigerian international Joseph Yobo has called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to change the way they treat indigenous coaches whenever they are in charge of the Super Eagles.
In a chat with Brila FM, Yobo, who captain the senior national team to win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations under late coach Stephen Keshi, stated that he has not shut the door on coaching.
The former Everton star also said that he has learnt a lot from Gernot Rohr, but mostly under Augustine Eguavoen during their time with the Super Eagles.

“My life doesn’t depend on coaching, but if I don’t go back to coaching, I believe Nigeria missed something. Everyone who knows me knows my passion for the game, I put my heart into it.
“I learnt a lot from Gernot Rohr, but mostly under Eguavoen. They didn’t allow me to follow through so they could see what I had learned and how I could impact the players.
“I haven’t shut the door on coaching, but it’s not my top priority. They need to change the way they treat our local coaches.
“That was the only reason I didn’t want to join while I was still playing, even though I had the opportunity to see how it works,” the 44-year-old said in quotes revealed by Brila.

Mumu….Yeye dey smell…. Joseph Yobo, hear yourself….Go and train and do your UEFA Coaching Licensure before you come here and talk to us…. The days of thinking that because you played for Nigeria gives you the automatic right to coach Super Eagles are long gone. Those EU players who transitioned to coaching their National Teams did not get those roles on a platter….They worked for those roles, even if you are Zinedene Zidane, he still went through it before venturing into coaching…..Wise up bro…..
Se na by force, abi you didn’t read where he said coaching is not top priority for him. No be every former player go be coach. Make una leave the man alone
Kenneth abi wetin you call your name….Tell your brother, Yobo, he should go and get his UEFA coaching license at the minimum including internship. He can then come talk to us….No short cut……
Olu abi wetin you too call yourself, the man no dey desperate for the job. He sha write am say no be priority. Na by force to coach or get licence. Many ex-footballs are out their doing better than coaching. Se you see am begging for the job
Hehehehe….this one (like his seniors before him) thinks the SE is the only practice ground for his coaching ambitions.
It’s either a national team job or nothing. He will be doing us a favor if he leaves “every other thing he has to do in life to take up coaching”.
They say there is a thin line between selfworth and empty arrogance. Mr Yobo seems not to know he is trespassing into the latter.
It’s running to 4 years he was acclaimed to have started his coaching diplomas and nearly 3 years since he was pushed aside from the national team’s technical crew and ever since, we have neither heard him bag any coaching badges, licenses or job even if it is in the local league……and he wants to be taken seriously….LMAOoo….Really.
He even thinks we are missing alot by not having in onbaord at the moment….LMAOoo. what a crazy sense of entitlement.
I’m sure he must also be feeling he would be selected for a job ahead of the likes of Yema, Ogunmodede, Ilechukwu and Rulani Mokwena if they all meet at an interview for a coaching job today….LMAOoo
Hellloo uncle Yobo, as they say in local parlance…..Dey play ehn…Dey play.!!!
You didn’t even read between the lines lol. He said he learned more from Eguavoen who incidentally is the current sit-tight coach (instead of persuading glasshouse to find a permanent coach now ahead of 2025 calendar) so that he can be on the bench with his “great mentor” next month.
He, a long with other lightweight ex internationals, are suddenly rooting for indigenous coaches. Underhand dealings at play.
Don’t put anything past NFF oh. He might just be in the technical crew next month. What better way to make noise?
This must be the joke of the year so far, and who ever appointed Yobo to assist Rohr must have deceived him into believing the rubbish he is spewing out. Yobo better wake up. Cant help but laugh.
The SE has now been reduced to nothing, that any ex-player can come out and claim right to coach.
I dey laugh coz e be lyk say dis our oga don turn cruise abi na NFF be d cruise….hehe we no go ever serious 4 dis country.
