Yobo actually made 100 appearances meaning a 100caps for SE except you counted his last match on our jersey which actually was his testimonial…
Nigeria and records keeping…smh
Those who are opposed to the nomination of Joseph Yobo should take a look at the coach of Senegal Aliou Cissé. He was a former player to be specific a defender not even in the class of Yobo. No experience and certificate and has succeeded in making the Taranga of Senegal the power house of Africa football.
You are absolutely incorrect.
Aliou Cisse was captain of the Senegalese side that got to the Quater finals of 2002 WC. He had a stellar football career playing for Clubs like Lille, PSG, Montpellier (in france) and Portsmouth and Birmingham City in France. He was 1st assitant coach for 2 years with french national league club Cuiseaux before being called to handle Senegal’s assist Diouf Abdoukarime in the senegal U23s as they qualified for 2012 Olympics. Afterwards he was promoted to being assistant coach of the Senior national team and and was promoted to position of head coach in 2015.
He wasn’t attending comedy shows and presidential campaigns after retiring from football like Yobo. He was busy training himself and gathering experience as a coach before his country called him. It is only in Nigeria someone with no training or experience can be appointed as assistant manager of the National team…LMAO
Hi Obaze. We should always have our facts before we go online. Aliou Cisse has paid his dues before he was appointed as the Teranga’s Lions coach. An ardent Super eagles supporter and a good writer on this platform (I think Oakfield) once chronicled the coaching progression of Aliou to becoming the Teranga’s coach together with the local Algerian coach when the argument came up. Well, nothing might be wrong with Yobo’ appointment but not right at this moment. No coaching experience and certificate? I think our national team is too big to be used for an internship. His political appointment has a political attachment. In my own opinion Amuneke is just the right candidate to be in that position judging by his coaching experience both local/national, international and pedigree.
I guess it was Dr. Drey I was trying to remember. Thanks
@Dr.Drey,thanks for the clarification.I actually agreed with you until the point you stated cisse was not attending comedy shows and presidential campaigns like Yobo.Even though I do not understand what you mean by that,it is still derogatory even if it is true to paint Yobo in that light,it gives an impression that the buy is unserious and undeserving of the appointment and merely rode on the wings of some powerful people.
Well, just to correct the notion that Yobo was busy attending presidential campaigns,it has actually been confirmed that Yobo has been developing himself and as a Matter of fact just returned from a course.
In my earlier write up I had referenced the credentials of Yobo as a player and leader, judging by which he can pass for an intelligent player. All he needs is to continue to develop himself with coaching cerfication. But inspite of that his appointment is apt.
