FC Barcelona coach has lauded Spanish defender Sergio Ramos’ performance in Sevilla’s 1-0 defeat to the Blaugrana (Blue and Red) on Friday, September 29 at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.
Ramos’ own goal in the 76th minute gave Barcelona the victory.
Ramos rejoined Sevilla this summer after spending two years with Paris Saint-Germain.
He was previously at Sevilla between 2003 and 2005 before moving to Real Madrid where he won several Champions Leagues and Laliga titles.
Speaking in a video on fcbarcelona.com after Barcelona’s victory, Xavi lauded the 37 year old’s impact for the club from Seville.

“I haven’t seen him and I haven’t spoken to him,” Xavi said.
“He is a spectacular defender. He deserves a lot of credit to be at the top level at hi age. He is a professional. The goal is a shame for him, but it benefits us. That’s life, football is life.
“Sergio thrives in these environments, he definitely grows. In the goal he has to defend, like any good defender, and it rebounds and goes in. It is a misfortune for Sevilla and for him. An unfortunate goal. He played a great game.”
Ramos had five clearances, two interceptions, one block, three long balls and 21 passes during the match.
He has made two appearances in the 2023/24 Laliga season. He has played three matches across all competitions this season.
Barcelona are currently top of the Laliga table with 20 points from eight matches.
However they have played one more game than Girona and Real Madrid who are in second place and third place respectively.
Up next for Barcelona is a game with Portuguese club FC Porto in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, October 4 at the Estadio du Dragao.
They are currently first place in Group H of the 2023/24 Champions League with three points after matchday one.
