Ashun Wu says he is “very happy” after taking the lead at the halfway stage of the Volvo China Open.
Starting his second round just one off the lead, world number 229 Wu made eight birdies and just one bogey in a brilliant seven-under-par round of 65, leaving him two strokes clear on -13.
The 33-year-old from China, who is searching for his fourth European Tour title, was delighted with his performance on Friday and is enjoying playing in his home country.
“It was a great day again today,” Wu told the European Tour’s website. “I made eight birdies and one bogey, I hit a lot of quality shots today and made a lot of birdies.
I’m very happy. “During the season break, I took some time off to evaluate my game. I made some swing changes and it got better and better.

I enjoy playing at home. It’s a great week as I have my family and friends here with me. It’s a good feeling.” Finland’s Tapio Pulkkanen holds sole possession of second on -11 after signing for a round of 68 while Spaniard Jorge Campillo is a further stroke back on -10 after going round in 69 shots.
Frenchman Benjamin Hebert holds fourth position on -9, one shot ahead of a group of six that is headed by Victor Dubuisson.
