Team Nigeria’s Prestina Ochonogor secured her spot in the long jump final with a leap of 6.28 meters at the World U-20 Athletics Championship in Lima, Peru, on Tuesday, August 27.

Ochonogor’ leap of 6.28 meters was the second-best distance in the qualifying round, trailing only Spain’s Laura Martínez, who jumped 6.37 meters. The final comes up on Wednesday, August 28.
Other top contenders for the final include USA’s Sophia Beckmon (6.16 meters), France’s Vanessa Lokuli, and Sweden’s Ayla Hallberg Hossain.
In the women’s 100m, Justina Tiana Eyakpobeyan advanced to the semi-finals with a time of 11.61 seconds, placing 9th overall in the heats. Unfortunately, Chioma Cynthia Nweke did not advance, clocking 12.24 seconds in heat 6.
In the men’s 100Men’s 100m, Sunday Okon comfortably won heat 3 with a time of 10.46 seconds, securing his place in the semi-finals. However, Chidera Ezeakor’s run of 10.92 seconds in heat 7 was not enough to secure a semi-final spot.
In the Mixed 4×400m Relay;, Nigeria’s quartet of Oseiwe Salami, Odot Effiong Udo, Gafari Badmus, and Favour Onyah, failed to advance to the semi-finals despite achieving a season-best time of 3:25.59 in heat 2, which was won by Jamaica.
