Argentina lock Tomas Lavanini has been hit with a four-game ban for his high tackle on England captain Owen Farrell. The 26-year-old was shown a straight red card just 18 minutes into Argentina’s 39-10 loss at Tokyo Stadium on Saturday.

His sending-off shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise due to his record as the most sin-binned player in Argentina’s history. Lavanini admitted committing an act of foul play and has subsequently been slapped with a four-match ban, ending his World Cup prematurely.
Argentina, who saw their chances of advancing from Pool C ended by England, finish their World Cup campaign against the USA on Wednesday. The lock will now head off to England to join up with his new team-mates at Leicester Tigers but the ban means he won’t be available for their first three matches of the campaign.
