Serena Williams will return to action at the Italian Open, according to tournament organisers.
The 23-time Grand Slam champion has been absent from the WTA since the Miami Open, having withdrawn ahead of her third-round match there due to a knee injury.
Williams appears on course for her first appearance in Rome since 2016, however, as tournament director Sergio Palmieri has told the Associated Press she has reserved her rooms and he expects her to arrive in Italy “a few days early”.
