Former Nigeria international and current Super Eagles team coordinator, Patrick Pascal, believes Victor Osimhen has what it takes to break the goal scoring record of the late Rashidi Yekini.
Osimhen took his tally for the Eagles to 15 following his four goals in the Eagles’ 10-0 win against São Tomé and Principe in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.
Currently legendary striker Yekini, who passed away in 2012, holds the record with 37 goals.

But Pascal posited that with the way things are panning our, Osimhen will surely broke Yekini’s record.
“If he continue definitely he will be the greatest goal scorer in Nigeria because when you check the age of Osimhen, his goals, I think he has about 15 goals and Yekini has 37,” Pascal said on Brila FM.
“With the way we are going and with the way Osimhen is scoring goals he is going to set another record. That would be a very good thing because it is good to set a record and another good thing for someone to break it.“

It is not about BREAKING a RECORD it about how the RECORDS were BROKEN..
RASHIDI YEKINI scored SPECTACULAR GOALS against TOUGH OPPONENTS like TUNISIA, can’t forget his BRACE against IVORY COAST etc…
Scoring GOALS against a very WEAK ASS TEAM like SAO TOME can never get you to the HEIGHT of the GOAL KING (YEKINI)
RASHIDI YEKINI still and will for many GENERATIONS to come be the GREATEST NIGERIAN GOAL KING!!!!
Your wahala too much my guy….the fact remains that Osihmen has got age on his side, and he stands a very good chance of breaking Yekini’s record. That being said, you also cannot deny the fact that the young man has improved a lot from his Lille days, and he still has a couple of years to keep doing that. So, with that, you can be convinced that the guy will be a force to reckon with in big games in the nearest future. Infact, for me, the major thing he needs to improve on is his anxiety and positioning. He just needs to manage those things.
LMFAO!
ABDUL how I take get WAHALA na?
Am just EXPRESSING myself..
LMFAO!!
Sorry the BRACE came against CONGO.
But however, YEKINI DEMOLISHED DEFENSE and SCORED against strong teams like IVORY COAST, ALGERIA, EGYPT CAMEROON with a HAT TRICK against ETHIOPIA…
Note there was nothing like SAO TOME then o… As all the TEAMS then could LITERALLY RUB SHOULDER with one another… Very COMPETITIVE!!
But even there was anything like SAO TOME and RASHIDI YEKINI played in the GAME, HE would have SCORED 8 of the 10 GOALS…
Guy, think of what Oshimen will become 2-4 years from now. He has not started yet.
Osimhen is young and he still has about 10 years to play in his career. He will surely surpass Rashidi Yekini scoring records
The young man is hungry for success, the future is really bright for him. Watch out for Osimhen, he is the present and future of the super eagles
Again it is not about SURPASSING RECORD but “HOW” the RECORD was SURPASSED..
Osimhen still has 10 years in top level football and given SE’s lack of top strikers at top level world football I see osimhen still being around for majority if not all of this 10 years…… Osimhen is also very young and has already tasted 3 out of the world top 5 leagues( Germany France and Itali) which makes him miles ahead of Yekini who only tasted one top5 team in all his playing career…… Osimhen is very technical and athletic which makes him ahead of Yekini…..I don’t think there is anything that can stop osimhen from breaking yekini’s international record……I pray he does not sustain a career ending injury early in Jesus name AMEN.
which makes him (OSIMEHN) miles ahead of Yekini who only tasted one top5 team in all his playing career…… Osimhen is very technical and athletic which makes him ahead of yekini…
AKP are you ALRIGHT???
Guy ur analysis has does not make sense at all.u can never compare Yekini to osimhen at all. Osimhen even has said it himself.Yekini will ever remain one of a kind.he scored great goals for Nigeria which I will never forget at the National stadium Surulere Lagos then watching him live at the stadium. Scoring goals from impossible angles, shot from outside 18, headers, ball control etc.forget about playing for clubs in top European leagues, some Nigeria greatest players never even left the shores of Nigeria like odegbami, Haruna ilenika etc.so my bro give respect to whom it belongs to. I love osimhen so much and I want him to succeed and break Yekini’s record. But no one should take away Yekini success story! Yekini will ever remain the greatest 9 ever in the hearts of many Nigerians.
@Akp, I doubt if you ever watch yekini played.
He uses both legs he was even the one playing our free kicks with his shots it’s that technique that he had more than any Naija strikers. Ask your elders.
Your type of wordings clearly shows the level of your maturity. I really disappointed in all manners. From the way you sound, I won’t want to believe you were even before Rashidi Yekini made his national team debut.
Osimhen Victor for now is not being compared to the great Hero Rashidi Yekini. What is being discussed is the probability of Osimhen beating the record after so many years. The current Eagles No. 9 still has a long way to go in his football career and much to achieve as age is definitely on his side.
Let’s try to reason well before rushing to comment on post. Not all comments are worthy to be pasted and read by others.
Let the coaches look for the oliseh the okocha the amochachi and put another rufai types template in the team. den let see how it goes in another 4 years.
Dont worry, we have them already, Aribo, Indidi and Iwobi.
Olise will still come and beg for shirt when either Aina or Aribo join Crystal Palace. I see Osimhen breaking Yekini’s record with his form but that doesn’t make him better than Yekini. This life is generation by generation.. Yekini was our song back then, Osimhen is now! Like it or not, his the best both home and abroad at present.
Osimhen should keep improving, hopefully he gets to the level where he gets to score more goals against top opposition for club and country..
That is the major difference between him and top 9 like Yeking, IK-Uche, Obagoal…
I wonder how Rashidi-like player in the person of Paul Onuachu are being relegated to second fiddle role by both football analyst and super Eagles coaches.
It’s Sadiq that moves a bit like Yekini remains Strength and Shot Power.
That midfielder is born guys. Did a look up after I saw the story of his impending xfer to Anderlecht.
