Taiwo Awoniyi has stated why Tuesday’s international friendly against the Desert Foxes is very important to the Super Eagles.
Awoniyi was in action for the Super Eagles when they played a 2-2 draw against Algeria B team in Constantine on Friday.
Alex Iwobi and Cyriel Dessers were on target for the Super Eagles who will now engage the main team of the two-time AFCON winners.
And reflecting on Friday’s draw, his role as a striker and Tuesday’s tie, Awoniyi said on NFF TV:”It was a good game unfortunately we didn’t win but it’s a game that gets us going and understand each other.

“Every striker want to score a goal because your job is to score goals and help your teammates.
“I think it will be a good game for both countries. Algeria is a country with a lot of quality players but for us it is a game which will make us know each other more and keep us focus for the next challenge.”
The Super Eagles will be targeting a first win against Algeria since 2016 having lost their last three encounters against the North Africans.

My take on yesterday’s match, I will say what we are seeing in Iwobi today didn’t start today, even when he was not doing well at the club level, he was still performing well in SE, but you know black man,he doesn’t value what he has, they don’t see anything good in anything, until someone else has to show them. The only change I see in Iwobi as far as SE is concern is, his level of confidence.
I will also say SE need backup for Iwobi, we need more than one creative midfielder, not just any midfielder like others are clamouring but a creative one. Etebo that could cover up in the absence of Iwobi because of his box to box ability and ability to hold possession is not in the team which no one knows how long, I hope he gets a club, even though we may not be able to go back to him.
2. I think is time for SE to invite some new goalies, if the 3 goal keepers are not performing upto expectation invite another two goalie and retain one of the hold goalies, I think Uzoho is the one to be retained. Then, let the ones that are dropped prove themselves
at the club level again, then they will get their chance again. What am I saying in essence, let’s some other keepers too get chance to prove themselves, we don’t know may be solution to problem we are having in goalie department is somewhere staring. Nobody expected Enyeama to have had the success he had at the world cup. There are players that believe in themselves and want to seize every opportunity that come their way like they will never get another one again if they refuse to take it.
Pesiero must exclude Maduka Okoye finally from Super Eagles because of his bad minnows, Peseiro must recall Mark Ugboh Midtijylland goalkeer instead of Okoye. I recommend Peseiro to play with 4-4-2 on the coming encounter versus Algeria frist team as follows: Uzoho-Aina,Akpoguma,Bassey, Sanusi-Onyideka,Iwobi,Lookman,Moses-Dessers,Moffi
Is not that he’s not good, his problem is lack of confidence, he just need time out of SE to work on his confidence level, then when he’s ready, he can have a look in. Okoye will grow into becoming a good goal keeper but not yet.
Endless hope…
The SE matches are not training ground. There are thousands of players that can also take opportunity of training. Okoye should stay out until he is qualified to be in the team
We are saying the same thing here. That’s exactly what I’m saying 5hat for now is not ready
Though am a fan of okoye ho cos I want to him to become a better keepr. But that mistake shouldn’t have come from him. Much more that you know people are still skeptical about your ability after that afcon.
You shouldn’t give room for people to easily conclude their opinion about you. There is an adage in yoruba that say if they call you a man of a smelling instine, then you yourself should learn how to keep your instestine very well.
Watching that primary Scholl error he made is not good at all. Even though I love him but he needs to be told the truth.

this is the first halve of the match. more of possession, few chances created, maduka okoye blunder, ekong error prone, defence lacked pace, waste of chances.
algeria less time of the ball and no clear cut chance created except maduka blunder.
but on a positive side, Raphel onyedika did made positive impact in the game. he distributed the ball very well both in tight spaces and in difficult situation. lookman was lively at the left wing.
the formation the coach started with was…3.4.3
