Why Ben White Is A Better Defender Than Alexander-Arnold –Ex-Arsenal Star

Former Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna has picked Ben White over Trent Alexander-Arnold when naming who he thinks is the Premier League ’s better right-back.

And former Gunner Sagna reckons White deserves the nod because he is better than his Liverpool rival off the ball.

Sagna, speaking to Mirror Football on behalf of Paddy Power, has picked a combined XI ahead of Sunday’s meeting between the two title contenders at the Emirates.

And while the Reds are currently on top of the table, Sagna has picked seven of Mikel Arteta ’s players – including White.

“I will go for Ben White at right back because he’s better defensively and you need to defend first as a defender,” Sagna said.

“That has to be your main quality. Trent is a threat going forward and one of the best in the world but because he’s attacking so much, defensively, the team gets exposed a bit more.

“That’s his game though and he’s not as bad as everyone says, but in such an important game, you need to be a bit more focused defensively. So, I’ll go for Ben White.”

Sagna reckons David Raya is a better goalkeeper than Alisson Becker, who is currently ruled out injured, because the Spain international’s passing is superior.

“I will go for David Raya,” he said. “I think he has the advantage of playing out with his feet and I think if you look at both styles, it’s an advantage for Arsenal to have someone who’s really comfortable with his feet. Allison is good but Raya is better with his feet.”
