The build up to the 2024/25 Premier League season continues following a highly entertaining European Championship.
Teams have been playing several friendly matches ahead of the new campaign, with mixed performances and results. Read on as we assess the early favourites for the new Premier League season.
Manchester City
Manchester City have dominated the Premier League in recent years, and they are the defending champions. Pep Guardiola’s team have won each of the last 4 Premier League titles and will be determined to make it 5 in a row. Manchester City have not been very active in the transfer market and the addition of Savinho from Troyes has been their only major addition to date. However, there have been no major outgoings from the Etihad Stadium and that means Manchester City are just as strong as they were last season. The sport betting odds rarely get it wrong, and Manchester City will start the 2024/25 Premier League season as the favourites to win their fifth successive title.
Arsenal
Arsenal pushed Manchester City close in the Premier League last season but failed to get over the line. Mikel Arteta will be hoping to the last two campaigns will hold them in good stead for what is about to come this season. The Gunners have made one significant signing to date this summer and Riccardo Calafiori has joined from Bologna to bolster the Arsenal defence. David Raya has made his move from Brentford permanent and will be the number once again this season. Arsenal look like being the closest challengers to Manchester City for the title this season, if they can keep their key players fit.

Liverpool
It has been a huge summer of change for Liverpool, and they have installed Arne Slot as their new manager ahead of the 2024/25 Premier League season. The Reds have yet to make a signing in this transfer window and that is giving some Liverpool fans cause for concern. However, Slot may be taking the time to assess the players he already has at the club before deciding who he wants to target for his system. There is no doubt we are going to see a different style of play compared to Jurgen Klopp and it will be interesting to see how the players and fans adapt to the way Slot wants his Liverpool team to perform. A charge at the title is probably unrealistic this season but there is no doubt Liverpool could cause some damage in the top four.
The Other Contenders
Chelsea have had another change of manager and continue to add fresh faces to their squad. It is unlikely they are going to be in the mix come the final month of the season, but they will certainly be entertaining to watch. Tottenham Hotspur looked good in parts last season and will need to show greater consistency to push Manchester City and Arsenal while finishing inside the top four would be an improvement for Manchester United.
So, Manchester City must be considered the early favourites ahead of the new Premier League season but Arsenal are not far behind.
