West Ham are said to be making progress in their attempts to sign Chile international Gary Medel from Besiktas. Talks between the Hammers and the 31-year-old are said to be moving in the right direction, as they have already shaken hands on a large proportion of the deal and are looking to agree a transfer fee with Besiktas as quickly as possible.
The Turkish club are said to value Medel, who represented his country at this summer’s Copa America, at around £4million. Medel has previous experience of playing in the Premier League following a brief spell with Cardiff during the 2013-14 campaign and he appears open to making a return.
West Ham’s pursuit of Medel appears to have come after speculation linking defensive midfielder Pedro Obiang with a return to Serie A with Sassuolo. Obiang is expected to complete his £7million move away from the London Stadium over the coming days and that would open the door for Medel to arrive as his replacement.
