English League One club Charlton Athletic have sent congratulatory message to their academy graduate Ademola Lookman for his 2024 Ballon d’Or award nomination.
Lookman was included in the 30-man nomination that was unveiled on Wednesday by organisers of the award France Football.
The Nigerian international will battle for the award with football stars like Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Junior, Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka, Nico Williams among others.
Reacting to Lookman’s nomination, Charlton wrote on their X handle:”Academy graduate Ademola Lookman has been nominated for the 2024 @BallondOr!
“We’re so proud of you, @Alookman_ ❤️.”
Lookman was Atalanta’s most impressive player last season as he helped them to the Europa League and Coppa Italia finals.
After losing 1-0 to Juventus in the Coppa Italia final, Atalanta thrashed Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in the Europa League final.
Lookman bagged the three goals for Atalanta, becoming the first-ever player to achieve the feat in the history of the competition.
Lookman joined Charlton Athletic’s academy in 2014 after signing from Waterloo, a youth football club based in the London Borough of Lambeth.
His goalscoring record for Charlton’s U18 and U21 teams led to him making a rapid ascent through the Charlton academy ranks and he made his first-team debut for them on 3 November 2015.
He scored his first goal for the club in a 3–2 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion on 5 December 2015, and then followed that up with both Charlton’s goals in a 2–2 draw with Bolton Wanderers ten days later.
He signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with Everton on 5 January 2017 and made his debut for the club ten days later in a 4–0 victory over Manchester City, replacing Ross Barkley in the 90th minute and scoring the team’s fourth goal.
Lookman has featured for clubs like RB Leipzig, Fulham and Leicester City.
