Atalanta manager, Gian Piero Gasperini is sad Ademola Lookman will be leaving for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, reports Completesports.com.
Lookman will link up with his Super Eagles teammates in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates for their pre-AFCON camping exercise next week Tuesday after Atalanta’s home clash against Leece on Saturday (today).
The winger was part of a 25-man squad for AFCON 2023 released by Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro on Friday.
La Dea could be without the influential winger for around a month depending on Nigeria’s performance in Cote d’Ivoire.

Gasperini claimed La Dea will be missing a key element in attack but stated that he has suitable replacement for the player.
“It worries me that Lookman is leaving for the AFCON, yes, both for the numbers and the quality of the matches played,” Gasperini was quoted by Tutto Fantacalcio.
“It is clear that we are losing an important element in attack, but we have a certain number of players to be able to make up for it.”
The 26-year-old has has scored six goals and provided three assists in 17 league appearances for Atalanta this season.
