Watford have provided a positive update on Oghenekaro Etebo ahead of Saturday’s Premier League home clash against Brighton & Hove Albion, Completesports.com.reports.
Etebo has been sidelined since picking up a quad injury in Watford’s home draw against Newcastle United in September 2021.
The midfielder later underwent surgery and recently returned to team training at the club’s London Colney ground.

“Midfielder Peter Etebo continues to edge towards a return to match action following a quad injury sustained against Newcastle United in September,” reads a statement on the club’s official website.
“The 26-year-old is meeting with his surgeon in Finland later today (February 10), and hopes to return to England tonight and resume training with the team tomorrow.”
Etebo, on loan from Championship side Stoke City made six league appearances for the Hornets before the setback.

We have several talented box-to-box/defensive midfielders at the moment.
The best of them include the following:
1) Etebo
2) Ndidi
3) Onyeka
4) Dele-Bashiru
5) Nwobodo
6) Kingsley Michael
7) Bonke
There are perhaps a couple more that may be added to this list.
I exclude Aribo from this list because to me, he’s an AM who can also thrive as a winger.
From the above options, we should not be having defensive midfield issues. The match-day squad will likely include 4 or 5 of these lads. A minimum of 2 of them should be in the starting line up, to ensure control of the midfield and provide proper cover for the defense.
For me, Aribo should competing with Iheanacho, Iwobi and Amoo for the AM role. When Ejaria’s switch is completed, he will be another option. I won’t include Olise at this time because the likelihood of him wearing the Nigeria jersey is dwindling with every passing day. Let’s hope it works out.
So at the moment, we’ve got the following players who are comfortable in the AM or winger roles:
1) Iwobi
2) Iheanacho
3) Aribo
4) Ejaria – when switch is finalized
5) Amoo
Let’s leave the DM role for the natural born DMs.
