Cardiff boss Neil Warnock won’t follow through on his threat to field his under-23s at Manchester City on Wednesday. Warnock was left incensed by the officials at the weekend as the Bluebirds conceded two late goals against Chelsea to slip to a 2-1 defeat.
Cesar Azpilicueta was offside for Chelsea’s equaliser, and after the game Warnock said he would “probably play the Under-23s on Wednesday against Manchester City” in order to focus on the game against relegation rivals Burnley at the weekend.

However, at his pre-match press conference on Tuesday Warnock revealed he intends to name his best XI for the midweek trip to the champions. “We haven’t got enough and none of the lads want to travel! So I’ve got to stick to the first team,” he said.
Warnock accepts his side are huge underdogs going into the trip to City but he has demanded maximum effort from his players. He said: “They’ve all got to turn up. We’ve got to do our best in the game. I doubt any of our squad could get in either two of their first teams.
“They’ve taken the Premier League to another level. And you’re not only putting your wits against the very best – possibly in Europe – but it’s the highest odds in a game this season. 40/1 in a two horse race! The bookies say they’ve never seen betting like it.”
