Why am I not surprised?
Not surprised either after how they struggled to beat that Ivorian team in the semis. None of their previous matches in the competition was a convincing win. They wobbled into the final, uncharacteristic of a Nigerian female team in Africa. They wouldn’t have made it out of the group stage anyway in the CAF competition. Bayelsa Queens who were 3rd in the competition proper last year were by far a more quality team.
Besides, just like in men’s football, our best talents are now starting to mostly play outside the country. The ladies are taking a cue from the men. So while we dominate Africa at the national team level, we become weaker in club competitions.
While on this matter, this is also a signal that clinching one of the 2 tickets reserved for Africa for the Paris 2014 Olympics is going to be a battle royale, with Ghana, CIV, Cameroun, SA, and Morocco all going to be tough pairings. Hopefully, one or 2 are not in the same group as us. We need to be at that competition to finish what we started at AUS/NZ this year.
But why is it so difficult for any Nigerian team to beat any Ghanaian side in football at any level? They are gradually extending their dominance to the female football and also to the club sides.
