Manchester United have opened talks in recent days with Ander Herrera’s representatives over a new three-year deal.
The Spaniard is out of contract in the summer and appeared to be heading for the Old Trafford exit door, having been slow to progress talks with his employers.

However, officials at the club have finally made their move and are hopeful the combative midfielder will now agree terms which will keep him in Manchester until at least 2022.
Herrera has refused to rock the boat while United have addressed the turmoil following Jose Mourinho’s sacking in late December, something which has been appreciated by his paymasters.
Talks are now expected to move quickly between both camps and the former Athletic Bilbao player, who was signed for £29m in 2014, is believed to be ready to commit the remainder of his peak years to United.
There is interest back in Spain for the 29-year-old but Herrera has a young family who are settled in England and the player has become something of a firm United fans’ favourite, never being shy to show his commitment to the cause.
