Union Berlin manager Urs Fischer hopes Taiwo Awoniyi will be part of Nigeria’s squad to the 2021 Africa Nations Cup in Cameroon, reports Completesports.com.
The striker was called up for Nigeria’s 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying double-header against Central African Republic in October but failed to make the squad for this month’s games against Liberia and Cape Verde.
The 24-year-old has however continue to impress for Union Berlin, scoring the opener in Sunday’s 2-0 derby win against Hertha Berlin.
The goal was Awoniyi’s ninth in the Bundesliga this season.

“We don’t worry about it and of course we have it on our radar,” Fischer told berliner-kurier.de.
“What could be nicer than representing your country ? Even if it doesn’t help us, we would be happy for Taiwo.”
Fischer also believes Awoniyi has developed and improved compare to last season through constant practice.
“He has learned to stay calm in the pit and can withstand the pressure better there. I do believe that Taiwo has worked on itself,” he added.

Awoniyi will only make the team if Ighalo sustains an injury. What we have now is a highly Rihrified Super Eagles where psst glory in the team matters more than resent form. I just hope NFF will do the right thing and show this man the way out of the team.
Awoniyi will only make the team if Ighalo sustains an injury. I’m not praying he does though. Not my wish. But what we have now is a highly “Rohrified” Super Eagles where past glory in the team matters more than your current form. I just hope NFF will do the right thing by showing this man the way out of the team. He’s a good scout , not a good coach
He should be guaranteed a spot in the 28 man squad. Both him and Dennis should be on the list of 28.
