Benfica coach Roger Schmidt has revealed that his team can still overturn the 2-goal deficit they conceded against Inter Milan in the second leg of the champions League quarterfinal.
Benfica must now overturn a 2-0 deficit in Italy after last night’s defeat.
Schmidt said: “We have to win, obviously it’s not the best thing but we continue to believe in it. It was a balanced game, without too many chances for both teams: when we were looking for the advantage we conceded the goal.
“It was a difficult situation, but the players continued to fight giving their all. We then conceded the penalty, even if I think we are missing a penalty and we were unlucky with the referees’ decisions. But in the end we have to accept the result and do our best in the return leg.
“I’ve always said that we’re not unbeatable, sometimes losing happens. We always try to do our best and we want to win, up until now it hadn’t happened in the Champions League but in this competition you play against excellent teams and sometimes you have to accept having a more effective team than you.
“It’s not easy, but we have an opportunity. We’ll have to be careful in Milan, but we’ll do our best to try and get another result.”
