UCL: Dortmund Star Bellingham Calls Chelsea Penalty Retake ‘A Joke’
Borussia Dortmund midfileder Jude Bellingham has called Chelsea’s retaken penalty in Tuesday night’s Champions League Round of 16 encounter a “joke”.
Chelsea knocked out the Bundesliga side 2-1 on aggregate.
Raheem Sterling put the Blues ahead three minutes before the break.
The Blues were awarded a penalty early in the second half which was initially missed by Kai Havertz.
Havertz atone for that miss when the referee ordered the penalty to be retaken after several Dortmund players had encroached into the penalty area.
“I ‘m not sure what more he can do with his hand,” Bellingham said after the match of the initial handball call.
“That in itself was disappointing and the fact that they’ve had a retake, I think it’s a joke.
“For every penalty, especially when you have such a slow run-up, there’s going to be people encroaching into the box by a yard or so. He’s made the decision and we have to live with it.”
