Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has questioned the penalty decision against his side in the Champions League clash with Inter on Wednesday.
The Gunners suffered their first defeat of this season’s competition thanks to Hakan Calhanoglu’s penalty in first half added time.
Spanish midfielder Mikel Merino was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the box from a free-kick.
The Premier League giants also had a shout for a penalty when Inter keeper Yann Sommer looked to punched Mikel Merino in the head during an ariel duel.
Reacting to the defeat Arteta argued that Arsenal too deserved a penalty for what he believed was a foul on Merino.
“I feel like we were very harshly done tonight… in the sense that is obvious,” he told TNT Sports.
“One of them, both penalties.
“Especially if you’re going to give that one Merino handball… the other one has to be 100 percent a penalty.”
Up next for Arsenal is a London derby with London rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
The good news for Arteta’s men is Martin Odegaard’s return from injury.
The Norwegian came on late in the second half against Inter.
