Nigeria and Samoa were both awarded one point each after their opening Group C game at the ICC U-19 women’s T20 World Cup was abandoned due to rain.
No toss was made before the game which was billed for Borneo Cricket Ground, Sarawak, Malaysia, was called off.
Nigeria will now take on New Zealand in their second game on Monday, January 20 also at the Borneo Cricket Ground.
They will square off against South Africa in their final Group C tie on Wednesday, January 22.
Also, in Group B England and Ireland were forced to split the points.
The English were sent in by Ireland and opener Davina Perrin helped them get off to a flyer, with a 26 off 19 including the tournament’s first maximum.
Charlotte Stubbs (31 off 34) and Jemima Spence (37 off 27) made strong contributions as the English totalled 144-7 from their 20 overs.
Ireland’s batting innings also got off to an eventful start, featuring both boundaries and wickets, climbing to 28-2 off 3.5 overs.
Unfortunately, the rain set in and the teams were unable to resume play.
