Ecuador defeated hosts Dominican Republic 2-0 in their Group A opener in the 2024 FIFA U-17 women’s World Cup on Wednesday.
A brace from Jaslyn Valverde secured the win for the South Americans.
Valverde opened the scoring in the 14th minute and got on the score sheet again in the 29th minute.

The win means Ecuador are second behind Nigeria’s Flamingos in Group A.
Up next for Ecuador is a clash with Flamingos in their second group game on Saturday.
