U-17 WWC: Flamingos Gun For Second Win Against Ecuador

Nigeria’s Flamingos have their eyes firmly fixed on securing another win against Ecuador at the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

The West Africans will take on the debutants in their second game of the competition at
the CFC Stadium, Santiago de los Caballeros on Saturday (today).

Nigeria thrashed New Zealand 4-1 in their opening fixture at the same venue on Wednesday.

Ecuador also enjoyed a good start in the Dominican Republic, edging past the hosts 2-0.

A win for either would punch their ticket to the knockout phase, while a draw would take matters to the final day.

Flamingos head coach Bankole Olowookere declared his side’s readiness for the encounter.

”Our tournament strategy is to focus on the next match, take it one match at a time. We need not look farther than the next match, and now, we have Ecuador in our sights. The Ecuadorians have shown, with their defeat of the host nation, that they may be debutants but not a team to be taken for granted,” he told thenff.com.

“The players have recovered well from their opening match victory over New Zealand and we are ready for Ecuador.

“We know that three points in that game will all but get us into the knock-out stage. It is an opportunity we will not allow to slip out of our hands.”
