Golden Eaglets head coach Manu Garba is pleased with his team’s performance in Wednesday’s 1-0 win against Angola at the National Stadium, Dar es Salaam, Completesports.com reports.
A lone goal from Olakunle Olusegun from the spot in the 20th minute was enough for the Golden Eaglets to beat the Angolans in their Group A Day two fixture and move within touching distance of a place at the last four.
Garba’s charges were awarded a penalty after Angola skipper, Jose Cabingano handed the ball inside the box and Olusegun made no mistakes to put it into the back of the net to decide the match.
Angola suffered a huge blow in the 51st minute after captain Cabingano was sent off for a second yellow after fouling Olusegun outside the 18th yard.
“I need to congratulate my players. Despite many mistakes they make in the game today, they were still able to win. You know most of them this is their first International tournament but I am happy they did it well. Both teams created chances today but the score is the only difference,”he told reporters after the game.
The win was the Golden Eaglets’ second of the competition after they edged out Tanzania 5-4 in the opening game last Sunday. They top Group A with six points from tow games.
Uganda who defeated hosts Tanzania 3-0 are second with three points, while Angola who have the same points but with an inferior goal difference sit in third position.
The Golden Eaglets will face Uganda in their final group game on Saturday. A draw will be enough for them to book their passage into the last four and the FIFA U -17 World Cup in Brazil.

I think wisdom ubani has a lot of potentials..please help us nurture him well..
Now complete sports have finally changed their language to a draw will be enough to see them through. I then wonder where from those false whistles all over the internet about this qualification Africa we need to get things right and straight.@Joshua yes Ubani is something else the strength and his shooting if well nutured I see a Cristiano in him not to forget he is a free kick specialist.
Thank God you have corrected the story that Nigeria Has qualified for the u-17 World Cup. All Nigerian papers and electronic media goofed by saying the Eaglets have picked the World Cup.
The mistake stems from lack of understanding of the rule. That is to say the strict head-to-head rule would no longer apply where three teams share victories between themselves. That is to say A beats B and B beats C, C now goes ahead to beat A. In that scenario the head-to-head rule has broken down and the normal algorithm of points, goals favour, goals difference rule then apply.
In the light of the above we should be praying not to lose to Uganda on Saturday because if that happens and Angola beats Tanzania, Nigeria will be out!
It doesn’t mean NIGERIA is out, other parameters will have to be fulfilled.
You are right
