D’Tigers head coach Mike Brown says his team has a long way to go if they hope to rub shoulders with the best basketball playing nations.
Brown stated this following D’Tigers’ defeat to Australia in their opening group game at the Tokyo 2020.
Ahead of the games, D’Tigers recorded impressive wins against USA and Argentina in their exhibition games.
However, after a keenly contested affair the Australians ran out winners 84-67.
And reacting to the defeat Brown said victories against USA and Argentina was not enough to believe D’Tigers have arrived.
“Because we beat team USA and Argentina, everyone thinks we have arrived. No we haven’t. We still have a long way to go.”
Brown and his players will hope to bounce back from the defeat to Australia when they face Germany on Wednesday.

Just Like our Football, Nigeria have top NBA talent playing in the NBA but they always choose to represent USA. The ones we get are normaly playing in America’s lower leagues or in europe which in Basketball is not half as quality as the NBA we all know that.. if we can find a way to get the top talents like the two time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo whos is NAija Greek. man then we talking
That’s two time MVP of NBA and with the bucks win he may go for an unprecedented 3 in row a feet not even Lebron achieved
He already plays for the Greek National team. Give Kudos to the NBBF president for the work he has done and the vision. It’s not easy to convince U.S born Basketball players to play for Nigeria and its kind of myopic to think European basketball does not have quality. Luka Doncic who is one of the best players in the NBA played 2 seasons in the Spanish basketball league before going to the NBA. France just defeated the U.S.A yesterday in their first game. The world is catching up man.
