Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has urged every member of his players to be prepared to fight for shirts in their respective clubs ahead of the new football season.
The German tactician stated this on the backdrop of Ahmed Musa’s new move to the Turkish side, Fatih Karagumruk, and that of Frank Onyeka to newly promoted club Brentford in the Premier League.
Musa’s transfer comes barely three months after he rejoined Kano Pillars on a flexible contract that granted him permission to leave the club whenever a move surfaces.

Rohr in a brief chat with NationSports said that he’s delighted with the move of some of the Super Eagles players while also urging them to be at their best in order to nail a regular shirt in their respective clubs.
“Yes it’s always good for our players to play on a higher level.“ They have also to work hard to be starting players in their clubs.”

Found several youtube videos on this guy. This is one of them.
Nice crosses with both feet, though mainly a lefty. Technical player. Similar game to Olise.

Tariq Uwakwe is 20. Compare his game to Michael Olise who is 19.
We get these guys, our midfield is set for the next decade.

This boy is a baller, I really do hope he plays for Nigeria
I hope so too, Patrator.
Balling, balling, young blood balling.
I have some doubts about his physique. Can he hold his own against rugged, hard tackling African players?
However, me no get no doubts about his ability!
Talking about Tariq Uwakwe, I heard Chelsea youth coaches labelled him THE NEXT MIKEL.
I don’t know about that – their games are so different, in my opinion.
Uwakwe is more Olise-esque, I think.
Uwakwe, Mason Mount, Reece James, all joined the Chelea youth system as kids together. Mount and James are now England internationals.
Why is Uwakwe then playing with Accrington Stanley in the 3rd division of English football?
It’s puzzling. Perhaps there are other things going on in his life that are holding him back.
The big question is – are we willing to take a chance on him now, before he blows up and attracts English interest? A player of this quality will not remain in the backwaters of English football for long.
Some of these youngsters are too comfortable playing in England lower leagues and youth setups… They don’t want to leave their Comfort zones… they should take their game abroad… Netherlands, Belgium, Spanish Segunda and Serie B… that’s how you toughen yourself and make moves unleashing yourself to world notice… any average footballer can play those youth teams and look like Messi… leave and go make your name elsewhere… English teams will then notice you. See Jadon Sancho, Ola Aina…
That’s partially true. However, in sports, you can only defeat what’s in front of you. Joe Aribo that is a household name in Nigeria today, started at Staines Town, a semi-professional club. Yes, an amateur club!
I think if it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it’s probably a duck. The abilities I see in Uwakwe’s videos, I think he can replicate them against tougher opponents. We just have to wait and see. If he was no good, he would not be invited to the England U-18s, U-19s and U-20s.
We don’t want to invest in facilities and infrastructure that will develop local players.
We also don’t want to try foreign born players that are developing.
All we want is ready-made, established players like Saka.
Problem is, when the players become established, guess who else is watching – yep, England. And by then, it’s too late!
Now that he is a “nobody” is our time to pick him up.
Let’s try him. If he is no good, THEN WE MOVE ON. But we can’t know for sure unless we try him, and others like him.
It’s not do-or-die anyway. But if we proceed this way, chances are we will snatch a lot more quality players from England in the future.
…The coach we have in Rohr who hates to take risks… is that the individual you want to bank on to test players like Uwakwe? I do not see that happening… the likes of lookman, sheyi Ojo, Ejaria who have made themselves available are even taking till thy kingdom come to switch and play for us… not to mention ones like Tomori and Noni Madueke who can still be easily convinced yet we are not doing much towards that … me don even tire I no care again sef…
@Pompei, before you judge how good a player is, you have to watch his full matches 2 or 3 times atleast, YouTube is an edited clips to market the value of a player.
Talent can’t be hidden, let him do more, before we start to place undue pressure on them. They only need encouragement for now
Yes, youtube edit can make a cat look like a lion. It’s true.
However, there are some things you see that make you want to take a second look. I searched for and watched some of his matches, and I’m still of the opinion that he is good.
As you said, it is up to him to convince the world of what I have already seen. My fear is that when he does that, England will also notice. Then it will be too late for us.
…I am watching Spain vs Australia Olympic soccer match now. Imagine if we had gotten our acts right and qualified for that Olympic… we would also be testing the very young players bursting out everywhere now… I can see Olmo who played for Spain till latter stages of Euro 2020 recently concluded also playing for the Spanish Olympic team now… meanwhile most of our players refused to take out just one week from their holidays to play against Mexico… it is well.
The thing pain me, no be small.
We’ve got quite a few young talents we could have tried at this Olympics.
Nff is owning them,so no need to make such sacrifice.
