Napoli new head coach Francesco Calzona has said Victor Osimhen is tired but will soon get back to his best.
Osimhen scored his second goal in two matches since his return from the AFCON where the Super Eagles finished as runners-up.
But it was not enough for Napoli who conceded a late goal to draw 1-1 with Cagliari on Sunday.
The game was Calzona’s first game since replacing Walter Mazzarri.
“He was only tired,” Calzona told DAZN via Football Italia, when asked about Osimhen’s performance.
“Victor is a fantastic guy. He scored two goals in two matches and will slowly get back in shape.
“Don’t forget he played at AFCON. Players are devastated when they return. He was tired also against Barcelona, but players always want to stay on the pitch.”
Sunday’s goal against Cagliari was Osimhen’s eight in 14 league appearances this season.
In this season’s UEFA Champions League campaign, he has two goals in five matches.
