The Chairman House Committee on Sports of the Nigerian House of Representatives, Honourable Kabiru Amadu, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for increasing the 2025 budget for sports from ₦29 billion in 2024 to over ₦94 billion, Completesports.com reports.
Speaking during the budget defence session of the National Sports Commission, Amadu lauded the President Tinubu’s commitment to sports and Nigerian youth, attributing the budget increase to the President’s passion for their development.
“The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has tripled the sports budget from ₦29,082,369,979 in 2024 to ₦94,947,006,325 in 2025. This represents a 227% increase. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is hereby commended for this remarkable stride in the budgetary allocation to the sports sector,” Amadu stated.

He expressed optimism that the increased funding would significantly impact the development, administration, and management of sports activities across the country.
“We hope and believe this budgetary increment will address the long-standing issues of deteriorating sports infrastructure nationwide, particularly national stadiums, lack of funds for over forty federations, absence of sustainable development plans, and the shortage of requisite manpower and training needed for Nigeria to excel in sports,” he added.
Amadu further pledged to support key stakeholders in sports.

“I promise to give the National Sports Commission, the Nigeria Football Federation, and the National Sports Institute all the backing they need from the National Assembly to ensure that the funds are released promptly by the federal government for sports development.
“The House Committee on Sports assures the National Sports Commission, the Nigeria Football Federation, and the National Sports Institute of unwavering support to facilitate easy access to funds from the federal government. This will ultimately drive sports development, particularly at the grassroots level,” he concluded.
