Luke Thompson has revealed his delight after he produced a man of the match performance to help St Helens to a Grand Final win. The 24-year-old impressed in the 23-6 victory over the Salford Red Devils on Saturday, as Saints managed to send off head coach Justin Holbrook on a high before his move to NRL side Gold Coast Titans.

Thompson has downplayed his starring role and claims he was just delighted to get the victory over the Red Devils at Old Trafford. “It’s an unbelievable feeling,” Thompson said. “We’ve worked so hard all year as a group and we work hard every week in training, so we were determined to get the win.
“We haven’t been here since 2014, so it’s an unbelievable feeling and I’m made up to do the job for Justin to send him home with some silverware. “I didn’t even think about winning man of the match, I just wanted to do the job for the team and thankfully we got the job done.”
