Jan Siewert said Aaron Mooy’s omission from Huddersfield’s starting XI at Tottenham on Saturday was because of a tactical switch. The Terriers chief made the surprise decision to leave the Australia international midfielder on the bench for the lunchtime game at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as Juninho Bacuna partnered Jonathan Hogg in the middle.

Mooy eventually came on in place of defender Jon Stankovic in the closing stages, but the game was already over by then as Town were trailing 2-0. He did almost create an opening for Huddersfield while on the pitch, but Spurs went on to score twice in the final three minutes to wrap up a 4-0 victory.
When asked about the decision not to start with Mooy, Siewert said: “For me, it’s important to talk about what he did when he came on the pitch. He directly gave everything. “Aaron is a fantastic player, a really fantastic player, but we had another idea and he knows that. “He is a great guy and he directly helped that we had our chances.”
