Former Nigerian international Mutiu Adepoju has urged the Super Eagles players to give their support to the newly appointed coach, Eric Chelle.
Chelle is expected in Abuja on Sunday to finalize the details of his contract.
The 47-year-old was named the new Super Eagles head coach by the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, yesterday.

In a chat with Brila FM, Adepoju appealed to Nigerians and the players to rally round Chelle so that he can be successful.
“I think the best thing we can do at the moment is for the Super Eagles to support the new coach, Eric Chelle, and hope all works out well.
“Nevertheless, I think the NFF has taken a decision, thinking that it’s the right decision.”

Good choice
NFF is broke to hire a former Malian coach, Eric Chelle.
We just have to rally round him and give him all the support he needs to succeed at his new job.
Recall this coach led Mali to a 2 nil victory over the Super Eagles of Nigeria over a year ago,
With his stats with Mali and the quality of players at his disposal in the Super Eagles, he’s sure to achieve great marks.
His tactical inputs and his ability to manage the ego of the national team players will come under serious scrutiny and test with the upcoming AFCON tournament and world cup qualifying games.
Given the right support and motivation and the freehand to operate, he sure would succeed.
We don’t care about the damage we’re doing to ourselves. We insult our coaches at will and look at what we have. I wish Nigeria the best of luck and I also believe in our local coaches anytime.
There was a time we believed in our own, but our own failed us woefully that simple Afcon qualification was difficult. Our own put business ahead of success, slots for sale, invitations were not based on merit, federal character, 94 set had birth right to SE bench etc. All we want is to see our team succeed.
He will bring the best from the super eagles players, and play good entertaining football.
I am confused… just wish us the best..
I remain bullish about Sekou Chelle—this guy feels like the breath of fresh air Nigerian football desperately needs. Word on the street is that he’s as tough as they come, especially when it comes to team selection. No shady calls or “connections” dictating his lineup. If true, that’s a massive win for us because, let’s face it, we’ve had enough of politics dictating football decisions.
Chelle’s football philosophy is pure gold: quick transitions, possession-based play, and relentless attacking football. This isn’t the type of coach to sit back and “pray for a miracle.” He wants his team to dominate and entertain. His AFCON triumph over South Africa is still fresh in my mind.
That was a tactical masterclass—nullifying their strengths, exploiting their weaknesses, and seizing the win. With the Super Eagles’ arsenal, hopefully, he’ll hand South Africa another reality check when we come up against them later this year in that crucial WCQ match.
The NFF, for once, deserves applause for this hire. But they need to do more than clap from the sidelines—they must back him fully, let him implement his strategies, and resist the urge to meddle. If they do, I’m confident this man will redefine the Super Eagles. Sekou Chelle feels like a coach who could spark something truly special. Let’s sit back, buckle up, and enjoy the ride!
SOMETIMES, WE DON’T NEED TO BE DECIEVED/CONFUSED WITH THE HIGH PROFILE NAME OF COACHES BEFORE THEY ARE BEING EMPLOYED.
WHAT IS THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF WESTERHOFF, KESHI, HERVE- RENARD BEFORE THEY ARE BEING EMPLOYED BY NIGERIA, TOGO, ZAMBIA.
WHAT WE NEED FROM ERIC CHELLE IS TACTICAL DISCIPLINE IN GAMES & SELECTION WITHOUT SENTIMENT.
MOST NIGERIA COACHES ARE TRIBALISTIC, REGIONISTIC, SENTIMENTAL AND BRIBE-TAKEN
We wish Chelle all success in his new assignment.
If he succeeds, we all celebrate, and NFF gets the credit.
If he fails, out the door he goes! However, those that hired him must also exit with him. The Technical Director, and the entire NFF board, must be relieved of their jobs if Chelle fails.
The fate of NFF ONIGBESE is now in the hands of this new coach they have hired. That is how it needs to be.
Ire ooo! We continue to hope for the best!
This is a big slap on our football. This appointment is completely terrible.
Nff just took our football and pedigree backwards. If they had even gone for Senegal former coach or former Egyptian coaches or Algerian coaches. Those who won something.
Not a Malian coach..
Trust nff something must have exchanged hands..The guy must have paid something. Complete nonsense.
POINT OF CORRECTION FRENCH MALIAN.
ARE YOU NOT THE SAME PERSON WHO CONGRATULATED EGUAFAILURE FOR QUALIFYING THE CHAN TEAM TO CHAN FOR A JOB HE WAS NEVER PART OF? LMAO!!!
Lets wait and see.
This man is far better than all Nigerian coaches put together.
