Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has been handed an injury boost ahead of the side’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header against Benin and Lesotho with the return to training of defender Kevin Akpoguma, reports Completesports.com.
Akpoguma last featured for his Germany club Hoffeheim in a league game against Freiburg on January 2 due to a hamstring-related injury.
Hoffeheim confirmed the versatile defender took part in training on Wednesday.

“Kevin Akpoguma and Ishak Belfodil have been able to take part in some aspects of training ,”reads a tweet on the club’s official Twitter handle.
Akpoguma has made 13 league appearances for Sebastian Hoeness’ side this season.
The 25-year-old, who made his debut for the three-time African champions in a friendly against Algeria last October has made four appearances for the team.

This guy has been out for a,while now. He hasn’t played any games since his recovery. He isn’t match fit. I dont think inviting him now will be a good idea. Let him play some games and get back to match fitness first. Even If he misses the 2 qualifying games, there will be other games in the future. We can do the job with the available defenders at our disposal.
I don’t think this is any boost. Seems more like another “wahala” looming because Coach Rohr will be forced to fulfilling his promise of playing him by force since he switched from Germany to Nigeria hence Benching Ola Aina and Ebuehi worthy of playing the RB role for him. He should please regain match fitness and concentrate on his club for now.
