Cristhian Stuani has penned a new deal to remain at Girona until June 2022 to end speculation over a move to Barcelona. The 32-year-old was understood to be a target for Girona’s Catalonia neighbours having caught the eye at the Montilivi since joining from Middlesbrough in the summer of 2017.
The Uruguayan forward netted 21 goals last term in La Liga and has found the back of the net 12 times in the current campaign – the best return from any non-Barcelona player in Spain’s top flight.

It was understood that the Blaugrana were keen on adding Stuani to their ranks during the January transfer window and the forward was coy on the prospect when asked. However, Girona have now tied down their star striker to a new long-term deal and Stuani is happy to stick with the Gironistes. “I identify with the values of the club: commitment, dedication, effort, sacrifice and enthusiasm. I want to continue making history with Girona,” he told the club’s website.
