US Ryder Cup captain Steve Stricker expects both Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson to be in contention for a place on his 2020 team. The pair are both veterans of multiple Ryder Cups and were on the losing team under Jim Furyk as Europe regained the trophy at Le Golf National in 2018.
The US will be favourites to take it back at Whistling Straits next year, with a number of talented younger players coming through led by the likes of Brooks Koepka. Stricker spoke to the media on Tuesday to mark exactly one year until the event begins and, when asked about who he felt would make up his team, he failed to mention either of the legends.

However, when prompted about the omission, he added: “I think both are very capable of making the team. Tiger probably will make his own team this year in The Presidents Cup. He’s played well again. “It looks like Phil is building up his calves and getting thinner and hitting more bombs, so anything is possible with Phil, and with Tiger we know what type of player and competitor he is. “It wouldn’t surprise me if either one of those guys made it and we welcome that as a team.”
