Schalke boss Huub Stevens hailed the performance of goalkeeper Alexander Nubel following the crucial 1-0 win over Hannover. Schalke eased their relegation fears thanks to a first-half strike from Suat Serdar, but also have their goalkeeper to thank after he made some vital saves to keep the lead intact.

The Blues are now six points clear of danger, and interim boss Stevens hopes the win will give his side more confidence in the remaining games. “It was a hard-fought victory,” Stevens admitted after the game. “With a bit of luck on our side and a very good goalkeeper, we managed to take the three points.
“I’m happy with the result, but not the game. You can’t expect anything to be easy in our current situation. You have to fight for points – which is what we did. I hope that the win will give the lads some confidence. “Alexander Nübel was phenomenal in goal. Our fans, who supported us loudly for the whole 90 minutes, were also outstanding.”
