Richard Sterne says he is feeling happy despite being edged out at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship by Shane Lowry.
Sterne was in contention for the first Roles Series event of the season going into Saturday’s final round at Abu Dhabi Golf Club and he looked on course for victory after opening up a two-shot lead on the back nine.

However, the 37-year-old dropped shots at the 14th and 16th to slip back to -17, allowing Irishman Lowry to snatch the win by one stroke after he birdied the par-five 18th.
It is nearly six years since the South African last tasted success but, despite failing to end his long drought, the world number 135 is feeling upbeat for the rest of the campaign.
“I’m just glad that I gave a good performance this week with a strong field,” Sterne said after his final round.
“It’s been a while since I’ve had a decent tournament, so I’m pretty happy with the way I performed. “Thanks to Abu Dhabi and HSBC for putting on a magnificent event, and Rolex, as well. I appreciate it.”
