Spurs and Atletico Madrid have reportedly registered interest in centre-back Matthias Ginter, but Borussia Monchengladbach want £52m.
Bild claim the Germany international defender, who won the World Cup at the age of 20, has ‘aroused’ the interest of Champions League finalists Tottenham.
It is also suggested that both Spurs and Atletico are prepared to pay 30m euros (£27m) for the 25-year-old, although Die Fohlen value him at almost double that amount.
Ginter was seen as the next big thing in German football when Borussia Dortmund snapped him up for a fee believed to be £8million in 2014. But after three years and 67 Bundesliga appearances at the Westfalen Stadion he was shipped off to Monchengladbach for £14m.
He played in 27 Bundesliga matches last season but Monchengladbach finished outside the Champions League qualification places in fifth.
Spurs are currently well off for centre-backs but could be looking at long-term replacements for Toby Alderweireld, who is into the final year of his contract and continues to be linked with Roma.
