After long years of abandonment and neglect, respite has come the way of the mother of late Super Eagles striker Rashidi Yekini Mrs Sekiratu Yekini from the Minister of Youth and Sports Development Mr Sunday Dare.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has placed Alhaja Sikiratu, on a monthly stipend of N10, 000.
The Minister who was represented by Olaitan Shittu in Ijagbo, near Offa in Kwara on Wednesday donated various food stuffs and provisions as well as cash gift of #50,000 on behalf of the minister to the aged mother.
The other items donated include 50kg bag of rice, 10kg bag of wheat, six tins of Milo.
Shittu explained that it was not the first time the Minister was reaching out to Alhaja Sikiratu Yekini as he was also at her residence in September, 2019 to make similar donation.
Responding, Alhaja Yekini who spoke in local dialect (Yoruba), thanked the Minister for his kind gesture.

“I had been abandoned for a long time and didn’t get help from anyone.
“I was hospitalised for days, some months ago and catered for myself despite scarce resources, even last month, I received treatment at the hospital.
“I need help from Nigerians, but this Minister has done very well, especially remembering me in this holy month of Ramadan.
“Since my son died, life has been very tough because I do not get assistance from people.
Rashidi’s siblings are not doing well too, so, I am left to struggle everyday. This is very kind of the Minister. May God bless and reward him” she concluded.
Late Yekini who died eight years ago in Ibadan after retiring from active football, had a career that spanned more than two decades and was mainly associated with Vitoria de Setubal in Portugal, but he also played in six other foreign countries.

Someone said on Facebook that “His Mother’s shop is even empty”..I thought it was a joke not until now. I can see it myself in the picture above. God bless Minister Sunday Dare. Your Good works will never be forgotten. Best Minister so far among all the Mugus Baba appointed. We are so lucky to have him.
On the other side, This is not too abuse the Sleeping legend in anyway but to serve as a lesson to our present day footballers to please, please and please INVEST! with there money while they are still making it big time. Have a long time plan with the money you’re making now that can sustain you and your family even if you’re not there anylonger. Am saying this in light of a Comment I also saw on Facebook (Goal Africa) when they paid tribute to him replying the earlier comment I quoted above saying “Didn’t he Invest with his money while he was still a Pro?”
It may sound quite rude but it’s the bitter truth and a lesson for footballer nowadays.
#Keep Resting Legend
#Baba Rashidi
My brother, that Yekini matter just be like village things. Purely diabolic. Even Amokachi that wasted money on a private jet can still refer to the misguided and now evaporated purchase.
But 10K monthly? $25 for 30 days? Averagely a dollar or less a day? Haba, Oga Dare! If you have to do good, do it well, abeg. Don’t be like Cain.
Hi Kel
You can add your own 5K monthly instead of criticizing the minister for the things he has done
Hey, be appreciative and kind please. Eni to fun wa ni #1 Loni, o le se ju be lo ni ola. At least, he did something out of nothing.
Hmm… Rightly said @Kel. That money for a Legend’s mother is way too small. Come to think of it, No one is yet to beat his 37 Goals for Nigeria till date and that’s how Nigeria could reward his family. Thank God Dare sha remembered the family at least.. we’ve had past Ministers and they did nothing.
To worsen the case is the Corrupt NFF. Look at Seyi Akinwunmi’s stomach this days alone… you’ll feel like placing those Money monsters in the Glass house a curse for them and there Generations yet unborn. Like the whole money Nigeria Football needs is going right in there and it just keeps getting bigger..lol. One Night stand Amaju Pinnick gives his girlfriends in Lagos is 10 X 10,000 and they can’t do the needful to honour this legends. May God have mercy on them.
@ChairmanFemi…Yekini case is far more spiritual, diabolical.. Apart from the fact that’s he was uneducated, his siblings and extended family are a torn in his flesh while he was alive(my judgment was based on a first hand information due to my attachment with a member of his family). Do you know he died more out of frustration than sickness? We should always pray for good family around us. The same thing is happening to Emmanuel Adebayor now, that’s why the guy can’t retire because no other means of survival for him now. His own family is also his nemesis
Wow. Am just getting to hear this though. Kel said something like that too…. That’s serious
Oh wow . This is great . May God bless you more Mr. Dare.
This is the kind of person we need in charge of our sports.
It’s not up to 2 years now and we are seeing your great work.
Was it not the last year that Dangota and Ótędóló were given Super Eagles money?
Amaju and his group doing nothing for this mama, Keshi’s family, Ókwuraji’s family and so on.
Hmm, but they can send coach Rohr to Germany for a training program?
Nigerians are the problem of Nigeria .
I will keep saying my own and I’m pretty sure that oneday, you people will listen.
Once again, God bless you our sports minister.
It is well. God bless Nigeria!!!
Dangote and Ótédóla
Oga! This one na Yekini matter. Not Coach Rohr. Can you just stop linking every thing and your personal problems to Rohr?? Or is Rohr the one running Ministry of Sports and NFF now?
Oga Fęmi, I have to because everything about Nigeria is not transparent.
Nigeria is the only country they will see 1 and call it 2.
Fęmi, listen to me very well. Are you satisfied with the way things are going in this country?
Did you see any improvement
No wonder Nigeria is having good roads, electricity, security and infrastructure. Kai, instead of us not to have Covid-19 in Nigeria, we are having hunger virus. Kudos to our government. They have done really well.
Hmm, is there any hope for our unborn generation?
And I’m pointing out the truth here and instead of you to come out and say the truth, you are there backing our oppressors.
Rashidi Yękini’s mother is not deserving this treatment ba.
Most of us are very selfish. Some of us doesn’t care as long as they’re okay with what they are doing, everything is good.
Chairmanfemi, if we have this mama in our family, can you pray for her to be in this situation? Just a question ni o.
Do you think this mama doesn’t deserve to be collecting money from the Nigerian government every month?
You even said I’m linking coach Rohr’s name to everything. Ę, ofe e fe,
When brain is not working well, it’s going to affect every part of the body.
That means, if NFF and Mr. Rohr are not doing their job accordingly, other national teams in the country will not follow their footsteps.
But they are not doing what they are supposed to be doing Mr. Fęmi.
For that reason, I have a reason to to tell NFF what to do.
Fęmi, if you can’t beat me then, you join me to make Nigeria better.
I am commenting on this platform not because of coach Rohr or NFF but because of my lovely County Nigeria.
Deep down inside you, you know that I love my country.
Do have a good sleep chairmanfemi.
God bless Nigeria !!!
Wow, Yekini really resembles his mum sha! I see his face in hers. Good one by the minister. Government can’t do it all. Individuals can also step up and assist, if the ability is there.
While our useless politicians and their soulless families are smiling home with our billions naira, our greatest heroes and their families are suffering. And this one flew all the way from Abuja to present a 5k Cheque, and some people are praising him. I swear most Nigerians are very gullible. Is too late for that Zoonigeria. So we should be praising the Fg for giving yekini mother 5k, same fg that gave myatti Allah a confirmed terrorist organization 100b.
Just so sad, God bless you Minister. I know this is not coming from the ministry but your own pocket. Where are all the billionaires in Nigeria, the saraki’s especially.
Those of you saying that we should add to the 10k if we don’t appreciate the minister is not different from mumus that voted Bhuari again. So by now you don’t know it’s the duty of the ministry to cater well for this sort of cause. I have stopped commenting here because I realise it’s a waste of time reasoning with low inexperienced brains.
How can a country of this magnitude be giving a legend’s mother a meager amount and be let to live in the drench anyone who says we are bad mouthing the ministry should check himself. Yeye dey smell for Nigeria I will keep supporting the country when they’re doing well but I will not step my foot nor allow my kids do not until the government fix their mess and the mass wake up to reality.
We av to b sincere to ourselves dat money is very very very small we ar talking abt d great yekini nt just ordinary footballer dis country is worst
