Better line up Expecially in the attack but why not retain alozie at the left back and start Payne jr sis. From the RB? Alozie did pretty well from the LB towards the end of that match against Brazil. Anyway any team is beatable, let’s go for the 3pts ladies.
Apart from Supersport, where else is this match being shown
NTA AKURE
AJIBADE what happened?!!
Link pls
Nna go youtube mehn..abi you no get access to yuotube?? It’s free buddy
Thank God for nnadozie mehnn..the feminine enyeama…
Omo all I see is AKPU and POUNDED YAM FOOTBALL (SUPER FALCONS) against a SWEET STRAWBERRY FOOTBALL (SPAIN)
Just to put one or two passes or trap ball na problem..they are looking too heavy unlike their smart and sharp opponent…
mokey yash don’t worry the curse will soon catch yuh and kill yuh for sure. f****ing ghana hater – black heart black mind evil black soul son of devil lolz – nah suffer go kill yuh and all your bad belle family! watch! lolz – meanwhile wher is ghana women huh? lolz kwasia!
That’s the best we can do to be honest, keep it compact, hopefully we can get a lucky break.. Our last game against Japan won’t be easy as well, na crazy group we dey
Wait ooo, who actually gave Oshoala (agbabola) as nickname? That lady have never for once impressed me, well at least we are holding them, even if it end goalless or score draw, I will take it.
Oga oshoala needs better services and support upfront..she is doing her best can’t you see her coming to the mild field to help out with some hold up play and all that? Who give that pass to ajibade…no be her??
Osholla is Nigeria weakest link
NFF with Gusau at the helm, RENEW WALDRUM’S CONTRACT after it expires at the end of Olympics. The man is cooking something beautiful for our Women football.
Don’t have coconut heads because you will never choose a more powerful successor. No be by CAF grade C female coaches course wey una do recently.
You will not win a second term if you mess up with our Super Falcons.
I can let Eagles slide because the players first get different cabals within them so nothing will “surgically” change. July wan finish, no substantial coach.
Don’t joke with falcons by taking us to the dark days of being little when giants play against us.
Deo, I am over awed with this display. No matter what happens in second half, cooked up penalty, sending off etc, these ladies are SUPREMELY FALCONS. Who knows, we can stun the world
If Ajibade hadn’t slipped we actually would have scored. So yes, well done Super Falcons!
So true @Sly. I’ve never been prouder of a Super Falcons team in recent memory as Waldrum’s girls in this tournament. The team is gritty and tactically disciplined.
Let’s not forget we’re up against the Number 1 team in the world, better than even Brazil. I hope piggy bank saver Gusau will look beyond the see beyond the selfish interest of his board and extend Waldrum’s contract.
Oh my! Zambia is currently roasting Australia 4-2 so far. Another hattrick for Barbara Banda
The ‘basketball’ game between Zambia and Australia is now 5-5. 10 goals so far and still 15 minutes to go.
Don’t know why we play like Akuri ( brainless). The same thing applies to our male footballers. We need to start incorporating players that intelligent, that find it easy to make two to three passes . Skills are overrated . We need quick thinking players that will think ahead of their opponents and catch them unaware. We seem to rely so much on strength. How do you say of a professional player that can not spring two passes without mistakes or even passing to opponents. Just thirty percent brain for us we would beat Spain with easy because the skills stamina speed and endurance dey in abundance.
Spain is winning all the second balls and swarming and choking us anytime we have the ball. It appears speed is a major tactic for them here.
Mehn! Oshoala is soo bad it’s even beyond a joke!
All I’ve seen her do this whole game is literally get a couple of flick-ons, all the rest of the time she is just falling down, failing to trap and control easy balls and generally just a massive short 1 FFS! Haba!
Before we hear pim now some mumu will be saying that she is our best player – Imagine just now, she was actually in a glorious position and with the reputation some give her that should definitely have been a goal all day long! I really don’t know what to say about our female “agba baller” anymore ojare!
Ajiba again! Should have moved in a bit and kept it low….
Meanwhile I love the energy and fight she brings..she reminds me of osimhen.. she walks like him and looks like him a bit
Alozie is doing great at the defense…
But in the same vein, some of our girls are really very good – these are the REAL ballers we have and it’s such a shame that we have to go through this uncertainty – these girls need to progress through this group, anything otherwise will be a huge travesty and is essentially denying the world of brilliance from the Super Falcons of 9ja!
Old boy!! See trouble oo!!!
See as Oshoala waste GOLDEN chance??? Chaii!
God help us o!
Nna go youtube mehn..abi you no get access to youtube?? It’s free buddy
Since dem comot oshoala I no come understand again… atleast she was using her size and height to hold up play…
Chiwendu always going for power rather than placement. Same thing in the last match.
If they win this, it’s by pure LUCK! We’ve been the better side, yes they’ve had more possession but we have been the superior side and it’s just not right what’s happening to our football currently – but God is good, all the time!
Mehn we no be am at all. It’s like we’re playing for Spain. Spain wastes ball we collect and give them to try again
Hatred is the reason why some people loose their reasoning. Despite all the contributions made by Asisat someone would ignore the very subdued performance of Okeke, Onumonu, and Ihezuo and come online calling out Asisat.
You just showed what some of us have known about your people, hating others and expecting love from others.
See how serial goal loserIhezuo lost a clear opportunity at goal just like she fluffed against Brazil.
Likw or loathe her, the history of African female soccer can never be complete without Asisat.
Larry – You are a hopeless MORON!
Do you EVEN know the meaning of the term “Hatred”? you are so lost and uneducated and unintelligent and confused that you fools will just open your foul breath and start typing shit online – It’s not your fault though, I blame technology in our world today giving weapons like you access to the www. What an absolute plonker!
Idiot, confusing personal opinion with hatred – some of you Nigerians are a disgrace to humanity!
Anyways, this has just got harder – our only chance of going through is either we beat Japan by 3 clear and unanswered goals or we get anything from a draw up to 2 nil win to stand a chance of going through as 3rd place runners.
God bless Nigeria!
Omo I don tire… don’t we have a technical crew..are they not being paid…what kind of akpu football is this…
We just need to beat Japan (and I believe we can), and we’ll qualify as one of the best third-placed finishers. We have 2 ‘decent’ losses.
Spain never allowed us to play cos we were being more creative in the final third every time we had the ball. if we had 40% possession we would at least draw this match.
Waldrum needs to make the girls win more balls and retain possession. That’s about the only tweak he needs. The Spanish coach seemed to realize the only way to beat Nigeria is to stop us from playing and they did just that. They were not necessarily better.
Nope, as it stand we need two goals to stand a chance except Spain help us beat Brazil silly and we win against Japan.
I don’t understand why we gave the ball to Spain time and again. We created pitiful few chances but those chances were glorious.
Ultra defensive defensive approach on steroids will always come short.
I guess we were too star struck. Playing world champions. Fear of making costly mistakes that will become a brunt on social media. No, not showboating. It is like we expected not to get the ball in the first place. Well, perhaps we are out.
The other 3 nations in our group already have 3 points at least. I don’t know Olympic rules concerning head to head (against Brazil)
Good games by the girls . E go hard super Eagles players to beat these girls
The problem the Falcons are facing is that same old chestnut of a lack of competent strikers – Oshoala is definitely not it, I am so disappointed in her and it’s not even clear why she has suffered such a drop in any kind of capability ehn, it’s like she’s 38 or anything like that and she is still mixing in professional footy circles but she is such a disappointment chaii!
We have nobody – Zero competent strikers in any way shape or form who know where the back of the net is, ha! Omase o! If only we had a foreign born woman striker like somebody like that Diame of France! God help us o!
Anyway, I am not disappointed at the team as a whole, just flummoxed as to how we got into this position of an abject dearth of striking options! Next base ojare!
In the match that I watched Oshoala was one of the stand-out player, maybe you should send me the match you watched so that I can understand what you’re trying to say!
Maybe you should open your eyes when you are watching football or perhaps you’ve been watching the back of your neighbours TV due to poverty not allowing you to have one of your own? Or maybe even, you should go back to kindergarten and start all over again to take on the basics of what football is and why it is played and by so doing gaining a better understanding of what is required of the different positions on the pitch in a TEAM game – Better still, just ignore my comments because it’s clear you do not have the capacity to comprehend what I am cooking – I’ll tell you what my dense friend.. let’s just agree to disagree kagwani? You stay in your lane henceforth and totally ignore anything I say? Deal?
Maybe what I am “trying to say” is not for your level of understanding howz about that?
You know nothing about football, all you do hear is insult and trying to intimidate others. Someone was trying to reason with you logically, you are there insulting him that he cannot afford a good TV. Not sure you’re educated though!
When someone ignores the cleae opportunities missed by Ihezuo in the two matches and comes online to harass Asisat who had to support the midfield and created opportunities for the team, you know something is definitely wrong or he is watching from analog TV.
My brother, the guy doesn’t know jack about football, obviously one of those people who watch football with emotion. Oshoala must score in every competition because she’s the Africa footballer of the year as if footballer’s like Ronaldo score in every match. A kindergarten bearing general, nonsense and ingredients!
Waldrum has turned our defense into an impenetrable fortress! They’ve held off the best female football teams on the planet: England, Canada, Brazil, Spain, Australia, even the USA. It’s a joy to watch, and I’m pumped to see how they handle Japan soon and, hopefully, Sweden, Norway, France, and the Netherlands down the line. I’m confident they’ll give these teams a run for their money.
But let’s talk about our offense – or lack thereof. It’s like we’re trying to score goals with a blindfold on. The team can’t hold possession and are hilariously wasteful when a counter-attack chance pops up. This was glaring at the WWC, and I thought Waldrum would have sorted it out by now. Yet here we are, with Baba still in his drawing room, puzzling over the right attacking formula.
First off, our midfield creativity is practically non-existent. We need players who can hold the ball, create spaces, and feed the attack like master chefs. I sorely miss Ngozi Okobi – the only player in the current squad who could whip up such chances. Sadly, she had a fallout with the coach and left.
If Waldrum sticks around – which I strongly suggest – he needs to start focusing on the midfield creativity department. We need players who are not just skillful but also dynamic going forward. And let’s not forget the finishers! We need strikers with ice in their veins, not ones who get an adrenaline rush and blast the ball into orbit when faced with the goalkeeper. Right now, our Achilles’ heel is our laughable marksmanship and an infuriating lack of creativity in the midfield. Fix these, and we’ll be unstoppable!
That will come at a price. An overhaul of our midfield and attack will ruffle a lot of feather with several current “darlings” who are still in their prime. I don’t know how it will be carried out because these darlings channel their inner mojo to help out the defense also. Maybe strike a balance but with CAF marooning over WAFCON, we have limited opportunities to try out options. Do we want to go back to the “Zambia vs Australia” rollercoaster style as the interim falcons boss did before Waldrum was reinstated by glasshouse?
Bro, it’s not like we’re not creating chances. Against Brazil, we had two solid opportunities. Today, we had about three, if you count Ihezho’s brainless attempt and Ajibade’s double miss. These were golden chances that could have clinched the games for us. But where are the finishers? You can’t be playing against a team like Spain – a team good enough to outclass some male teams – and expect to get 10 or 15 scoring opportunities. If you don’t capitalize on the few chances you get, you’ll pay the price.
So, even with our lackluster attack, the team managed to create great opportunities against some of the world’s best. Imagine what we could achieve with better creativity in the midfield. Goals win matches, not just saves and tackles. That’s the point I’m making, bro. With a sharper attack and some creative playmaking, we’d be unstoppable.
There’s no evidence that Randy Waldrum has any use for “creative” midfielders in the SFs…
When people believe (as many Westerners seem to) that our greatest attributes are physical, they will align their tactics to take advantage of such attributes. Virtually all the “chances” we created was by trying to outrun the opposition.
@Papafem,
Why not add a largely over-the-hill Cameroon and South Africa to your list of “among the best female football teams on the planet”?
After all we similarly “held them off” while of course simultaneously holding ourselves off from scoring goals (1 from open play in those 4 games)? Meanwhile, not sure which USA game you were watching (it certainly couldn’t have been the 0-4 whitewashing), but I do not recall us conceding less than 2 goals against the US under Coach Randy.
I don’t know if it was a good decision to substitute Alozie. We have Spain too much respect and soaked all the pressure which was bound to backfire. You don’t AIT back and soak pressure for 90 minutes. The passes were poor and we could not really move the ball quickly. The goalkeeper left her line and failed to anticipate that direct free kick. I doubt if this is not the end of the road because we were almost taking something from that game.

We used to say “tried”. We have been saying this for how many decades now?
They are claiming that we are in the group of death but are we not the best African female team?
We respected Spain too much and we paid for it.
The same mistakes Super Falcons made against Canada before this tournament continues against Brazil and now Spain. Hmmm. My point here is, what is the purpose of having the foreign coach?
Nobody says nothing about this and I believe if it was our own in charge, they ask NFF Ajewomasan to sack the coach.
We were defending and expecting Spain not to punish Falcons right.
Sebi we tried abi and we tried as well at the world cup ba? Are we not tired of saying we tried? NFF should improve our football. Super Falcons has never reached its potential.
When are we going to take the game to the best teams in the world?
I think we need to change our mentality. We are good as them and even better than them all. If we have this confidence, we can beat any team.
I am not impressed with Waldrum in this tournament. He dropped Gift Monday for the Chiwendu or what is her name.
Way forward is to look inward. We saw what Waldrum assistant did when the manager wasn’t around. I love Waldrum but he is not doing well in this tournament.
If we called Spain world champions, we were the former African Champions too.
We don’t have the best facilities here in our country but our ladies are playing in top leagues. So, no excuse. We are equal to the task and I have to be honest with you Nigerians, we have to get the best Nigerian coaches to be in charge of all our teams. Even if we win our last match,
how far can we go in France Nigeria/ Africans? Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!
It’s like you don’t appreciate the fact that if we had not played a defensive game yesterday we would have been basketed with goals, in fact the game would have ended in the first half. The problem is neither with the coach nor the players. The Spanish team had 6 players playing in real Madrid, another 5 players in Barcelona team and the rest from the Spanish league and Nigeria players all came from at least 17 different clubs from 11 different countries. The only way the super falcon would have succeeded is for the team to have spend more time together in camp and played quite a number of games to gel as a team. Unfortunately, people like you and those managing our football only believe foreign or good local coaches are magicians. Let the NFF improve the league they say no, let them organize quality friendly matches for the teams they say no, then on match day they expect the magician who have not received salary for months to perform magic. I pity this country!
@Mr. Nice, fortune favors the brave…
We played the same “defensive game” against Cameroon and South Africa in the qualifiers – and I don’t see any much-touted Real Madrid or Barcelona players in their lineups! Between the WC and Olympics, we’ve played 6 games and only scored in ONE game (vs Australia)! If you add the Cameroon and South Africa games, it comes to only 3 games out of 10 – and it was a PK in one of those 3 games. In fact, if you add the most recent Canadian friendly, that’s 3 out of 11 games!
Time to wake the eff up and admit there’s a huge problem! If Randy Waldrum cannot get an attack-minded assistant, he should be replaced (after the Olympics of course) with a coach who can or is!
GOOD LUCK LADIES! I still believe we can beat Japan!!
As always top comment.
@Chima, Justin Madugu would have won this game against Spain without stress. White coaches are useless. See the way Super Falcons were scoring like pure water against Cape Verde and Ethiopia.
lol, You are comparing Cape Verde to World Champions ,Spain ?? You know next to nothing about football bro .lol
@Emecco, goal is a goal. Under Madugu, Super Falcons were scoring goals left right and centre. After Wuru Wuru Waldrum returned, they stopped scoring like @9jarealist mentioned. Shine ya eyes. Justin Madugu is far better than Waldrum.
Oh, I forgot that Cape Verde and Ethiopia are European nations lol. I forgot too that Nigeria became 11 times WAFCON champions by beating silly several European nations over the years and climbed up the rankings.
Don’t be bullish in reversing the confidence the squad is building on currently. Even other African nations envy us. In case you missed what Papafem wrote earlier, read some excerpts and search within you if any of “our own” will have the decency to assemble a squad from as many as 17 clubs from 11 nations without bias
Papafem had written:
“Waldrum has turned our defense into an impenetrable fortress! They’ve held off the best female football teams on the planet: England, Canada, Brazil, Spain, Australia, even the USA. I repeat, primordial sentiments, squad list influence would have taken falcons backwards. Even RSA knows Nigeria is not their mate. How many times does NFF prioritize friendlies for falcons compared to super Eagles to get more fluid?
Nigeria became 11 times WAFCON champions by beating those nations silly in the past. Not standing up against European opposition. As we dare to dream now. If NFF had also prioritized friendlies for our ladies as they do for the lethargic Eagles, taking chances against global giants would have been easy peasy. Would a local coach dare to defy glasshouse and assemble players from 17 clubs in 11 countries when glasshouse knows it’s “money wasted”? Cut Waldrum some slack. We have actually made a statement on the global stage within the last year than at any other time in women football history on the continent. No local coach would have done that. Influence on team selection, lack of passion and support for women football etc. A local coach would not have instigated the unprecedented direct payments to players at the last WWC
@Sly, not sure why you think that “assembling players from 17 clubs in 11 countries” is some sort of coaching achievement…huh?
How many clubs and countries did the Spanish coach assemble her team from? Dude, you pick your “best” (if there’s any non-subjective measurement for that) players, or at least the players you feel can best execute your plans, wherever you find them – whether in 1 club and 1 country or in 18 clubs and 18 nations, and anywhere in between.
The sorts of accolades colonized Africans/Nigerians give to Oyinbo coaches can be mind-boggling. Meanwhile, no one seemingly can figure out how McCleans, who never featured in any of the qualifiers or recent games (and looking increasingly unlikely to see a minute of action) ended up on the roster. But if it had been an indigenous coach…SMH
@Sly, just for the record (albeit I continue to insist it is of little or no substantive importance), Justin Madugu “assembled” players from 20 clubs (precisely 18 professional clubs and two US colleges) from 10 nations for the qualifier against Cape Verde (and given that Toni Payne has actually yet to play in England, Waldrum’s charges are actually drawn from 10 nations). It’s NOT a big deal!
@Realist these people don’t know football they are full of inferiority complex and blinded by access to Tv. It will be a waste of time educating them at your own peace.
I just Dey laugh at some peoples comments. Lmao!! We should even be glad that we didn’t come out of that game with basket full of goals. Our only issue was taking our chances. Ajibade and Ihezuo were big culprits in that aspect. Nnadozie is a world class goalkeeper. The midfield is missing Ayinde and dropping Rinsola was kinda huge mistake. We lack cutting edge in attack that’s the problem.
Like @Sly maybe if we had a long training camp it might be a different story. We have a solid team just lacking the cutting edge in attack.
We came out with the same ZERO points that Zambia (who conceded 6 goals) did…
The goals different would count if both teams were to compete for the best third-team in each group to qualify for the next stage.
@9jaRealist, Bruce Mwape is the local goal of Zambia and so far they have scored 5 goals in France whereas this Wuru Wuru Waldrum’s team have scored zero.
Waldrum has failed.
All these colonial mentality thinking must stop. Justin Madugu is far better than Waldrum. We were scoring like free sex under Madugu. People should shine ya eyes.
So, you prefer a Mwape that was leading with a 3-goal margin and still lost over a team that is holding her own against the elite in the game?
You prefer chaos over ogranised?
So, it is Waldrum’s fault that experienced players like Ajibade and Ihezuo couldn’t find the net even with the easiest of chances?
The problem with those individuals with this local mentality is that they keep gaslighting and deflecting, living in self-denial, blaming everyone else but themselves. The same mentality that is pushing the Super Eagles to the brink of non-qualification for the world cup, because we just have to play the victim and ‘ lose with our own’. Peak ignorance.
To the local champions, I say, wake up! the world is bigger than your village. You don’t have it all. Merit should be the name of the game. We should get and hire the best no matter where they are from. As long as they are qualified and earned it by putting in the work.
I have stated in an earlier write up, I appreciate Waldrum’s work in the way he has organised his team and giving us the grit, especially defensively, but it is time to find the balance, attack wise. We must be brave and initiative and start dictating games rather just being reactionary. We must move to the next level. I believe we have the quality to really compete. We have proved it with our defensive organisation, it is time to show it at the other side.
Give them their Madugu with his free-scoring attacking tactics against nonentities now and we wont qualify for the Olympics again for another 16 years.
We’ve seen that movie again and again with the SE and we all know how it always ends.
You beat the team in FRONT of you…
It’s not as if Coach Randy’s team exactly blew away a “nonentity” like Botswana at the last WAFCON! Anwayway, without beating those so-called “nonentities” we wouldn’t have been at the Olympics!
My Hush,
Creating 5, yeah 4 compelling, composed and credible goal scoring opportunities against world champions Spain is to be lauded.
Waldrum’s instructions created 2 chances for Ajibade, 1 for Iheuzo and 2 for Okoronkwo across 90 minutes. 3 of those were sure banker goals if handled half competently.
On the account is of the quality and even quantity of chances created to score against Spain, I respectfully submit that Waldrum’s approach draped of attacking intent.
His strikers all just lost their nerves and composure. That is something you can’t really coach.
‘His strikers all just lost their nerves and composure. That is something you can’t really coach.’
Touche@ deo
especially strikers with that much experience and exposure.
The did NOT “lose their nerves and composure”…
Out of the 4 chances we had, the Spanish GK made good saves versus Okoronkwo (1H) and Ihezuo, while Ajibade stumbled over on 1 chance and blazed another half-chance over the bar.
Unfortunately, the tactics our coach deployed and set-up the team ensured that we would get VERY FEW chances. If the coach was expecting 100% conversion rate, that would be dumb.
Interesting how the coach gets the credit for the good things the team/players did, but the same folks want to absolve him of the supposedly ‘bad’ things the team/players did. SMH
The goals different would count if both teams were to compete for the best third-team in each group to qualify for the next stage.
