The upcoming 50th season of Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) was confirmed to return on December 6. Teams during the previous season will also be the ones who will participate in the league’s new edition. This is because no other team was promoted from the Nigerian national team.

Here are some of the NPFL teams you should know:
Akwa United FC (Uyo)
It is regarded as one of the best football clubs in the Southern region of Nigeria. They usually play at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium which is also one of the best football stadiums in the country. It is also known as the Nest of Champions.
Dakkada FC (Uyo)
It is one of the fastest-growing squads in the country. What’s interesting is that it is a sister club of Akwa United.
Abia Warriors FC (Umuahia)
It is a squad based in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State. The main rivals of this squad are Abia Comets and Enyimba FC.
Enyimba International FC (Aba)
It is known as the most successful squad that won a total of eight league titles. It is the only club that won twice during the CAF Champions League (2003 and 2004). You can recall Enyimba in their friendly match against Vemard earlier this year as the National League One Club was unveiled, further igniting football in Nigeria.
Enugu Rangers International FC (Enugu)
It is regarded as one of the oldest football clubs based in the capital of Enugu State in Eastern Nigeria. What makes them one of the most competitive groups in the league is that they are one of the most successful football clubs in the country that won a total of seven league titles.
Heartland FC (Owerri)
It is among the traditional clubs of Nigeria. They were also formerly known as Iwuanyanwu Nationale FC or the Spartans.
Ifeanyi Ubah FC (Nnewi)
It is a team owned by Nigerian senator Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, a Nigerian businessman who is also known as the CEO of Capital Oil. The squad is also affiliated with EPL’s West Ham United.
Kano Pillars FC (Kano)
This squad has the highest matchday attendance compared to other teams. In fact, the stadium is always full every time they play. The Kano Pillars also won the league four times (2007, 2011, 2013, and 2014).
Jigawa Golden Stars FC (Dutse)
It is one of the newly promoted clubs from the capital of Jigawa State. They usually play their matches at the Sani Abacha Stadium.
Sunshine Stars FC (Akure)
It is regarded as one of the top teams of the league. However, the performance of the team dropped when some of the key players.
Mountain of Fire and Miracles FC (Lagos)
Also known as MFM FC, it is a squad owned by MFM Church that won during the maiden edition of The Church World Cup.
Lobi Stars FC (Makurdi)
It is regarded as one of the best clubs of the league that usually plays at the Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi.
Adamawa United FC (Yola)
It is a team that was relegated from the league after a year of stint in 2007. It is also a squad from the Southeastern region of the country.
Although football in Nigeria hasn’t entirely reached the international scene, there is no doubt these teams will soon be recognized because of their outstanding performance in the field.
