Atletico Madrid Diego Simeone says he is looking forward to the summer window as he looks to rebuild his squad.
The Argentine’s success with Los Colchoneros has been built on their stubborn defence but changes are due this summer, with Diego Godin set to depart for Inter Milan, while Juanfran has still to sign a new contract.
Those two coupled with Miranda and Filipe Luis formed a fantastic back four during the first part of Simeone’s spell in charge, Luis slotting straight back in after a brief stint at Chelsea.

Jose Gimenez and Stefan Savic have alternated alongside Godin since Miranda’s departure to Inter in 2015 but Simeone is keen to bring in a new central defender rather than play the two together, while Santiago Arias is growing on the right of defence.
The 49-year-old is already looking forward to procuring some new talent, especially if they grow at the same rate as the players they are set to replace. “I love it, knowing how I know myself, the motivation for the coming season will be enormous because it will be difficult like everything we face,” he said. “Even more so because of the possible changes that I may have, but the people that come will come will do with energy and desire to grow.”
